Creation-Ready Emails
A video lecture, a podcast, or a deep research report takes minutes, not seconds. You are not meant to sit and watch it. Background tasks keep running after you close the tab, and when one finishes, Scholarly emails you.
The email is not just a notification. It previews what was made, so you can tell from your inbox whether the result is what you wanted — or whether it needs another pass — before you open anything.
When You Get One
An email is sent when a long-running creation finishes successfully. That covers the creators that run on their own:
- Deep Research reports
- Video lectures
- Podcasts
- Slide decks and story books
- Flashcard decks and quizzes
- Study guides, cheat sheets, worksheets, and rubrics
- Essays, reports, outlines, lesson plans, SOPs, timelines, flowcharts, and case studies
- Spreadsheets, mind maps, and infographics
- Transcripts and text-to-speech narrations
You do not get an email for:
- Short, immediate work — an AI Chat reply, a page autocomplete, an image generated inside chat
- Processing an uploaded PDF
- Transcribing a meeting recording
If a creation fails, the recovery lives in the app rather than your inbox: the item keeps its failed row on Home with the reason and a fix. See When a Creation Fails.
What's in the Email
Every email opens the finished item in one click. What sits above that link depends on what you made:
| What you made | What the email shows |
|---|---|
| Deep Research | The TL;DR, how confident the report is in its own answer, and the files it produced alongside the report |
| Video lecture | The video's poster frame, with timestamped chapters so you can see how the lesson is structured |
| Podcast | The episode cover and its timestamped chapters |
| Slides and story books | The first pages, as they will look |
| Flashcards and quizzes | A few real cards from the set — quiz answers stay hidden so the preview doesn't spoil the quiz |
| Essays and long documents | How the piece opens, plus its outline |
| Files, transcripts, and narrations | A direct link to the download |
A preview is a convenience, not a gate. If one can't be built in time, the email still arrives with the link — you just don't get the thumbnail.
Your previews stay private
A video poster in an email is served through a private, time-limited link tied to your account. It is not a public URL, and forwarding the email does not make your video public. Sharing is always something you choose explicitly — see Sharing.
Turning Them Off
One toggle controls all of them:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Notifications.
- Turn off When a creation is ready.
That switch covers every creator in the list above. Turning it off does not change anything about how creations run — they still finish in the background, and Home still shows them when they do.
Product & marketing emails is a separate toggle, and turning one off never affects the other. Account-essential mail — sign-in links, password resets, billing and renewal notices, team invites — is not covered by either toggle, because you need it to use your account.
Language
Emails follow your app language, not your AI language. If your interface is in Japanese, your ready emails arrive in Japanese even for an English report. Anything not yet translated arrives in English rather than not arriving. See Languages in Scholarly.
If an Email Doesn't Arrive
- Check the item finished. Open Home — a creation still running shows its progress, and a failed one shows its reason. No email is sent for either.
- Check the toggle. Settings → Notifications → When a creation is ready.
- Check spam and promotions. Mark a Scholarly email as "not spam" once and later ones land in your inbox.
- Check the address on the account. Settings → Profile shows the address mail is sent to. If you signed up with Google, it is your Google address unless you changed it.
- Still nothing? Tell us — include what you made and roughly when.
Email is a convenience, never the only route to your work. Everything you create is in your library whether the email arrives or not.
