Guide Plans & Limits

Plans and Limits

Scholarly offers two plans: Free and Ultimate. Free gives you access to core features with daily limits. Ultimate unlocks every paid feature with unlimited usage.

Free

The free plan includes:

  • AI chat -- 3 messages per day across all models.
  • Voice mode -- 15 minutes of voice chat per day.
  • AI creations -- 3 per day, shared across AI flashcard decks, deck-wide AI edits (Refine with AI), AI Podcasts, AI Video Lectures, AI Slides, and lecture recordings. Use them on whatever you need most that day.
  • Manual flashcards -- Build decks card by card in the Build Manually tab — no daily limit, no AI required.
  • Studying flashcards -- Unlimited.
  • PDF → flashcards -- AI generates a deck from up to 32 pages of a PDF on free — long enough for a full lecture chapter without needing to upgrade.
  • Pages and notes -- Unlimited note-taking.
  • Quizzes -- 5 practice questions per day.
  • Practice exams -- 1 exam attempt per day.
  • File uploads -- 1 upload per day, up to 8 MB per file.
  • Deep Research -- 1 research report per day.
  • AI Video Lectures -- Quick Recap length (~1.5 min) is free on every plan, and every Video Mode — including the new Auto default and Doodle sketch-note style — is available to try.
  • AI Slides themes -- Every visual theme (Editorial, Vibrant, Minimal Mono, Pitch) is available on every plan.
  • Captions -- Captions on AI Podcasts and AI Video Lectures are included on every plan.
  • Connected Apps -- Link Google Workspace at no extra cost. See Connected Apps.

Exporting and printing flashcard decks (Anki .apkg, PDF, or print) requires a paid plan.

Ultimate

Ultimate unlocks paid features and removes the daily caps:

  • Unlimited normal chat -- No daily message cap for normal chat models.
  • Premium chat -- Unlimited messages with paid models like GPT 5.4 and Claude Sonnet 4.6.
  • AI creations -- Unlimited, across flashcards, deck edits, podcasts, video lectures, slides, and recordings.
  • Voice mode -- 60 minutes of voice chat per day.
  • Unlimited quizzes and practice exams -- No daily question or exam cap.
  • Unlimited uploads -- Up to 300 MB per file.
  • PDF → flashcards up to 1,000 pages -- Generate decks from full textbooks, not just a chapter.
  • Longer video lectures -- Unlock the Standard (4–6 min) and Deep Dive (6–12 min) AI Video Lecture lengths.
  • Unlimited research reports -- No daily research limit.
  • Flashcard exports -- Export any deck to Anki .apkg, PDF, or print.
  • Early access and priority support -- Get the highest support tier and earlier access to new features.

When you hit a limit, you'll see an upgrade prompt explaining what happened and how to continue with Ultimate. The Create window also flags your remaining AI creations upfront so you don't have to guess what will and won't run.

Upgrading

Click Upgrade from any limit prompt, or open the Pricing page from the sidebar. Ultimate is available as a monthly or annual subscription.

3-Day Free Trial

When you subscribe to a yearly plan for the first time, you get a 3-day free trial. You can use every paid feature during those three days, and you are not charged until the trial ends. Cancel any time during the trial in Settings -- no charge, no questions.

The free trial is offered on first-time yearly subscriptions only. The upgrade screen always shows the current trial and pricing terms before you confirm, so you know what to expect.

What the Upgrade Screen Shows You

The upgrade screen compares Free and Ultimate side by side so you can see exactly what you unlock:

  • A feature-by-feature comparison.
  • Monthly pricing first for new users, so it's easier to compare.
  • A clear call-to-action labeled for the action you were trying to take -- for example, "Unlock and keep studying" when you hit a study limit.
  • A toggle between monthly and yearly pricing, with the trial terms listed under the yearly option.

Managing Your Subscription

Access billing and subscription management from Settings → Billing. You can view your current plan, update payment methods, change between monthly and yearly, or cancel your subscription. Changes take effect at the end of the current billing period -- you keep access to your paid features until then.

See Billing and Subscriptions for a step-by-step.
