Guide Account & Login

Account, Login, and Password Recovery

Everything about getting into your Scholarly account — and managing it once you're in.

Ways to Sign In

Scholarly supports three sign-in methods, all from the login page:

  • Google -- Click Sign in with Google and pick your Google account. No password to remember.
  • Email and password -- Enter the email and password you registered with.
  • Email sign-in link -- Click Email me a sign-in link on the login page, enter your email, and click Send sign-in link. Open the link from your inbox and you're signed in — no password needed.

The login page remembers how you signed in last time and marks that method with a small Last Used badge, so you don't have to guess which one you used.

Whichever method you use, it's the same account — your library, decks, and settings are tied to your email address.

Sign-in links are single-use and expire after 15 minutes. If a link has expired or was already used, just request a fresh one from the same page.

Resetting a Forgotten Password

  1. On the login page, click Forgot password?
  2. Enter your email address. Scholarly emails you the next steps.
  3. Open the link in the email and choose a new password (at least 8 characters). The reset link expires after 15 minutes — if you miss the window, request another.

If your account was created with Google, there's no password to reset — the page will tell you so. Head back to the login page and use Sign in with Google instead.

Changing Your Password While Signed In

Open Settings → My Account and click Change password. Scholarly emails you a reset link — open it and set the new password.

If your account is linked with Google, password management is handled through your Google account, so there's no password to change in Scholarly.

Updating Account Details

Everything lives in Settings → My Account:

  • Preferred name -- Your full name or a nickname. The AI assistant uses it to address you.
  • Profile picture -- Upload a photo for your account.
  • Email address -- Your email is used to log in and can't be changed from Settings. If you need it changed, contact support through the feedback form.

See Settings for the full tour of the settings window.

Switching Devices

There's nothing to transfer — sign in with the same method on any device and your entire library, flashcard progress, and settings are there. Scholarly works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet, and phone; see Scholarly on Mobile for phone-specific tips.

Signing Out

Click your profile at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Logout.

To sign out everywhere at once — say you logged in on a shared computer — use Logout of all devices in Settings → My Account. It ends every session except the one you're in; it can take up to 24 hours to reach all devices.

Deleting Your Account

In Settings → My Account, choose Delete account (Permanent) and confirm. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data, and it cannot be undone.

If you only want to remove some content, delete individual items instead — that's reversible. See Deleting and Restoring Content.
