Podcast Feeds and Embeds
Two ways to take your audio and video out of Scholarly without downloading anything:
- A podcast feed puts everything you make into the podcast app you already use.
- An embed plays a shared lecture or episode inside another site, a course page, a wiki, a team space.
Both live in the Share window on a lecture or podcast, under the Podcast feed and Embed tabs.
Your Private Podcast Feed
Scholarly gives your account one private feed containing your podcasts and the audio of your video lectures. Subscribe once in a podcast app, and everything you make afterwards arrives on its own, no copying links, no re-subscribing.
This is how you listen on a commute without opening Scholarly at all.
Subscribing
- Open any podcast or video lecture and press Share.
- Open the Podcast feed tab.
- Either press Add to Apple Podcasts, or press Copy feed link and paste it into your app's "add a feed by URL" option.
| App | Works? |
|---|---|
| Apple Podcasts | Yes, one button |
| Overcast, Pocket Casts, and most other apps | Yes, paste the feed link |
| Spotify | No. Spotify cannot follow private feeds. |
Keep the Link to Yourself
The feed link is the access. It is private to you, but anyone who has it can listen, because podcast apps cannot sign in to your account.
So treat it like a password: do not post it, and do not paste it anywhere shared.
If it does get out, press Reset link on the same tab. You will be asked to confirm, then a new link is issued and the old one stops working immediately. Re-subscribe in your podcast app with the new link.
What's in It
- Every AI podcast you create.
- The narration of every video lecture you create.
- New ones appear automatically, newest first.
Items you delete leave the feed. Podcast apps cache aggressively, so a change can take a little while to show up, pull to refresh if you are impatient.
Embedding a Lecture or Episode
An embed plays a shared lecture or podcast inside another page, with its player, chapters, and captions intact. Use it to drop a lecture into a course module instead of making people follow a link out.
Getting the Code
- Open the lecture or podcast and press Share.
- Open the Embed tab.
- Check the preview, then press Copy embed code.
- Paste it into your page.
It works in Moodle, Canvas, Notion, Confluence, and SharePoint, and in anything else that accepts embed code.
The Link Has to Be Open
An embed plays for everyone who can see the page it sits on, so the underlying link must be open to anyone who has it. The Embed tab tells you when it is not, and what to do:
| What you'll see | Why | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Allow anyone with the link | The item is currently invite-only | Press the button to open the link |
| This link has a password | An embed cannot ask a viewer for a password | Remove the password under link settings |
| This link is turned off | The link was revoked | Reissue it under link settings |
Opening a link to anyone who has it does not list it publicly in Explore or search. That is a separate choice. See Shared Link Controls.
What Viewers Get
- The full player, with chapters and captions.
- Interactive questions, answerable without an account.
- A slim Made with Scholarly bar, which opens in a new tab without pausing playback.
- No account, and no sign-in prompt.
Embeds do not expire on their own. They stop working if you delete the item, revoke the link, or set it back to invite-only.
Which One Do You Want?
| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Listen on a commute, in your usual app | Podcast feed |
| Put a lecture in a course page or wiki | Embed |
| Send one lecture to one person | Share link |
| Listen right now, in the browser | Listen instead |
| Keep an offline copy | Download (paid plans) |
Good to Know
- A feed is per account, not per item. Opening the tab from any podcast or lecture gives you the same link.
- Resetting the feed affects every app you subscribed with.
- Embedding needs no paid plan, but the link rules above still apply.
- Teams. If you shared a lecture with your team, you can also see who opened and finished it. See Sharing with Your Team.
