Turn a PDF into an interactive 3D model

Ask Scholarly to build a 3D model of what your document explains, such as an anatomy cutaway, a piece of equipment, or a cloud architecture, with labels taken from its pages. Refine it in chat, then export it for slides and video.

Free to start. A full build uses 1 AI Creation Credit; small edits are free.

BetaNew and in Beta. Runs in your browser, with nothing to install.

What it is

A model of the idea, built from your document

A 3D model is a workspace in your browser: the model on one side, the chat that builds and edits it on the other.

Built from your source

Start from a PDF and the AI builds from what its pages say, so the labels match your document. Start empty instead and describe what to build in chat.

Real 3D, not stock shapes

The AI writes each model as three.js code, with real geometry, physically based materials, lighting, and animation: a plant cell cutaway with leader lines and readable labels, or a gear train that turns.

A draft you approve

Every full build comes back as a draft. Preview it, then apply it or keep your current model. Undo brings back the previous version.

How it works

From PDF to model in four steps

Everything happens in one place: the model on one side, the chat that builds and edits it on the other.

  1. 01

Start from a PDF or empty

On Home, open the 3D model tab, or choose New → More → 3D model. Pick a PDF from your library, upload one, or start empty.

  2. 02

    Ask for the model

In the chat beside it, say what to build, for example "a labelled cutaway of the pump in this manual". You confirm the build, and its 1 AI Creation Credit, before anything starts.

  3. 03

    Scholarly builds it

Over a few minutes, the AI reads your pages and writes the model in three.js: geometry, materials, lighting, labels, and animation where it helps.

  4. 04

    Preview, apply, export

Preview the draft and apply it, or keep your current model. Refine it with free small edits in chat, then export an image, a turntable video, or a .glb file.

From PDF to deck

From your PDF to your slides and videos

Open a PDF and its first pages appear in 3D. The model is built from what they say, then exported in the format your training material needs.

  • Labels come from your pages, with leader lines that stay readable as you turn the model
  • Orbit and zoom, switch between perspective, front, side, and top views, frame all, or start a turntable
  • Export a 4K PNG, or a PNG with a transparent background to drop onto any slide
  • Export an 8-second 1080p turntable video (MP4), or a .glb file that opens in PowerPoint, Keynote, Blender, and web 3D viewers

What it costs

Small edits are free. A full build is one credit.

Chat tells you which kind of change it is before anything happens.

Small edits: free

Change a label's wording, a colour, a size, an animation's speed, or the background. Each edit appears on an approval card, and Undo brings back the previous version.

A full build: 1 AI Creation Credit

Turning your source into a model, or rebuilding it, is a full build. You confirm it first, it runs for a few minutes, and then you preview the draft and apply it or keep your current model.

Who it's for

For explaining how something fits together

3D models help when the hard part is seeing how the pieces relate. Some ways professionals and training teams use them.

Clinical and nursing education

Turn an anatomy chapter or an equipment manual into a labelled cutaway, then drop it into the in-service deck as a transparent PNG.

Training and onboarding teams

Turn SOPs, product specs, and equipment guides into visuals for slides and videos, with a turntable MP4 or a .glb for PowerPoint and Keynote.

Engineering, IT, and the trades

Model a mechanism, a cloud architecture, or a piece of HVAC or electrical equipment from its documentation to explain how it works.

Certification and licensure prep

Model the structure behind an exam topic, like network tiers or human anatomy, from your own study guide, labelled in its words.

Training a team?

Scholarly Teams gives your team a shared source library, Owner, Admin, and Member roles, and one bill.

Beta

What 3D models do today, and what they don't

3D models are new and in Beta. Here is exactly where the edges are.

Works today

  • Start from one PDF, from your library or a new upload, or start empty and describe what to build
  • Models written as three.js code, with real geometry, physically based materials, lighting, and animation
  • Free small edits on approval cards, full builds you preview before applying, and Undo
  • Exports on paid plans: 4K PNG, transparent PNG, 8-second 1080p turntable MP4, and .glb

Not supported

  • Models are explanatory, not CAD-accurate or engineering-grade
  • No STL or OBJ export, and no 3D printing
  • No manual 3D editing tools: no sculpting and no dragging parts. Changes happen by asking chat
  • It's a Beta, so preview each draft and check the labels before a model goes in front of a team
  • A model starts from one PDF or from an empty chat. Save notes or slides as a PDF first, or describe the content in chat

FAQ

Questions about 3D models

What is a 3D model in Scholarly?

It is an interactive 3D workspace in your browser. You start from a PDF or start empty, and in the chat beside it you ask Scholarly to build a model of the subject, such as an anatomy cutaway, a machine, a cloud architecture, or a process. Scholarly's AI writes the model as real three.js code, with geometry, physically based materials, lighting, labels, and animation. 3D models are in Beta.

What can I build a 3D model from?

One PDF, picked from your library or uploaded when you create the model. Its first pages appear in 3D, and the model is built from what they say. You can also start empty and describe what to build in chat. For notes or slides, save them as a PDF first, or describe the content in chat.

How much does a 3D model cost?

Small edits in chat, such as a label's wording, a colour, a size, an animation's speed, or the background, are free and appear on an approval card. A full build, which turns your source into a model or rebuilds it, uses 1 AI Creation Credit, and you confirm it before it starts. Exports need a paid plan, like other Scholarly downloads.

Will a build overwrite my changes?

No. A full build comes back as a draft that you preview. Apply it, or keep your current model. If you change your mind after applying, Undo brings back the previous version.

How accurate are the labels?

When you start from a PDF, the AI builds from what the pages say and labels the model in your document's words. It can still get something wrong, and the models are explanatory, not CAD-accurate, so check the labels before you use a model to train other people. When you start empty, the model comes from your description.

Can I export a 3D model to PowerPoint, Keynote, or video?

Yes, on a paid plan. Export a 4K PNG, a PNG with a transparent background, an 8-second 1080p turntable video (MP4), or a .glb 3D file that opens in PowerPoint, Keynote, Blender, and web 3D viewers. There is no STL or OBJ export and no 3D printing.

Can I edit the model by hand?

Not with 3D tools: there is no sculpting and no dragging parts. You change a model by asking chat. Small edits are free and appear on an approval card, a bigger change is a full build, and Undo brings back the previous version. You can orbit, zoom, switch views, frame all, or start a turntable to look at it from any side.

Where do I find 3D models?

On Home, open the 3D model tab, marked Beta, or choose New → More → 3D model. Pick a PDF or start empty, and the model opens with the chat beside it.
