How do languages work in Scholarly?

Direct answer

How do languages work in Scholarly?

Every creation has an output language. Leave it on Auto and Scholarly writes in the language of your source; pick a language and the script, on-screen text, narration and captions are written in that language, even when the source is in English.

  • One source, many versions: Make the English and the Spanish version of a training module from the same SOP, so both follow the same steps.
  • Speech that is told the language: Narration is sent to the speech engine with the language named explicitly instead of guessed, and languages one engine cannot be told are routed to a multilingual one.
  • Right-to-left and non-Latin scripts: Video scenes ship fonts for Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari, Bengali, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, and Arabic or Hebrew lectures lay out right to left.
  • Measured, not promised: Over the last 90 days, more than a quarter of the video lectures made on Scholarly were generated in a language other than English.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which languages can Scholarly create in?

The output-language picker lists more languages than these pages cover, including regional variants such as Mexican Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Canadian French. These pages cover the twelve languages people create in most often on Scholarly; the rest work the same way.

Do I need a source written in the target language?

No. A common workflow is one English master document turned into several language versions. Pick the output language per creation; the source stays the same.

Is the narration dubbed from English?

No. When you pin an output language, the lecture is scripted and narrated in that language from your source, whatever language the source is written in. Review names, product terms and numbers before sharing, as you would with any translated material.

Can a team share one source library across languages?

Yes. On Scholarly Teams every seat builds on a shared source library, so a regional lead can make a version in their language from the same documents the head office uses.
