Direct answer
Can AI turn a document into a podcast in German?
Yes. Upload the document, set the output language to German, and Scholarly scripts a conversation between a host, a producer and a guest from your source. All three speak German, and the transcript and captions follow the episode language.
- What goes in: PDFs, notes, slide decks, website links, YouTube videos and recordings. One source on Free, up to 10 per episode on Premium and 20 on Laureate.
- What comes out: A three-speaker episode with chapters, a clickable transcript and page-level citations, plus a chapter-slide video mode.
- How German is handled: Every voice is multilingual and follows German. The source can stay in English; the conversation is written in German. Narration uses a German voice. The speech engine is told the language explicitly instead of guessing it from the text.
- What each plan gets: Free makes one episode of about 2 minutes, streamed and shared by link. Premium adds 15 AI Creation Credits a week, episodes up to 60 minutes and MP3 and MP4 downloads.

How Scholarly handles German
What changes when the output language is German, taken from how the speech and rendering pipeline actually works.
Voice
Narration uses a German voice. The speech engine is told the language explicitly instead of guessing it from the text.
Script and layout
Latin script, left to right, including umlauts and ß. Titles, captions and the transcript are written in German along with the narration.
Variants in the picker
The picker lists German, Austrian German and Swiss German. The variants shape the written script; all three are narrated with the same standard German voice.
Check before you share
Decide between Sie and du before you generate and say so in the instructions, so the whole module uses one form of address.
Where it is used
Who makes German material like this
Training for teams in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Onboarding, product and safety training for DACH teams from the same source documents as the English version.
Certification and IHK exam study
Turn regulations, course notes or textbook chapters into German flashcards and practice questions for professional exams.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can my source be in English and the output in German?
Yes. The source and the output do not have to share a language. Upload an English PDF, deck or recording, set the output language to German in the creation panel, and the script, text and narration are written in German. Leave the setting on Auto and Scholarly follows the language of the source instead.
Can I choose between formal and informal German?
Yes. Add a short instruction such as "address the viewer as Sie" or "use du" when you create, and the script follows it throughout.
Is the German AI podcast generator free?
You can make one episode free: the Free plan includes one lifetime AI Creation Credit, which makes an episode of about 2 minutes in German. Premium includes 15 AI Creation Credits a week, episodes up to 60 minutes and MP3 downloads.
Can I download the German episode as an MP3?
On a paid plan, yes. Premium and Laureate download the episode as an MP3 for podcast apps or as an MP4 of the chapter-slide video. On Free you can stream it in Scholarly and share it by view link.
Is Scholarly's interface available in German?
Not yet. The app itself is in English or Japanese, but what you create can be in German: pick it once as your default output language in Settings, or per creation in the language row of the creation panel.
