Guide Study Streaks

Study Streaks and Progress

Scholarly tracks your daily study activity and maintains a streak counter to help you build consistent study habits. Combined with spaced repetition scheduling, these features help you stay on track and retain more over time.

How Streaks Work

Your study streak counts the number of consecutive days you have studied flashcards. Study at least once per day to keep your streak alive.

  • Streak counter -- Visible on the home page, showing your current streak length.
  • Daily reset -- The streak resets if you miss a full day without studying.
  • Streak notifications -- You receive a notification when your streak continues or when you are at risk of losing it.

Spaced Repetition

Scholarly uses a spaced repetition algorithm to schedule flashcard reviews. Cards you rate as difficult appear sooner, while cards you know well are spaced further apart.

How It Works

  1. Study a card and rate how well you knew the answer (1-4 scale).
  2. The algorithm calculates when you should see that card again.
  3. Cards due for review appear in your daily study queue.

Due Cards

The home page shows which decks have cards due for review today. This is your daily study queue -- working through it keeps your knowledge fresh and your streak alive.

Study Modes

Choose a study mode that matches your goal:

  • Cramming -- High frequency, short intervals. Best for last-minute prep before an exam.
  • Deep Learning -- Longer intervals focused on long-term retention. Best for material you want to remember permanently.
  • Quick Review -- Fast pass through material you mostly know. Good for maintaining existing knowledge.
  • Comprehensive -- Balanced approach that covers all cards. Good for general study sessions.

Focus Mode

Narrow your study session to a specific subset of cards:

  • Hard Questions -- Only cards you have flagged as difficult.
  • Quick Review -- Cards you have seen before, for a fast refresher.
  • Weak Areas -- Cards with low performance history that need more practice.

Opening study mode automatically launches a 10-question Focus Mode session using Quick Review, prioritizing cards you have not seen recently.

Session Timer

Track your study time with three timer modes:

  • Stopwatch -- Count up from zero to see how long you study.
  • Countdown -- Set a fixed duration and get notified when time is up.
  • Pomodoro -- Timed work/break intervals (e.g., 25 minutes of study, 5 minutes of break).

Tips

  • Study a little every day rather than cramming in long sessions. Short, consistent sessions lead to better retention.
  • Let the spaced repetition algorithm guide you -- focus on the cards it surfaces rather than reviewing everything.
  • Use the Pomodoro timer to break long sessions into manageable chunks.
  • Check the home page daily to see which decks have cards due for review.
