Comparing tools for a whole team?

Scholarly Teams puts your team, class, lab, or company on one Premium or Laureate plan — the chosen access for every member, all built from your shared material.

Where Pictory Still Shines

Pictory is a great tool with real strengths worth acknowledging.

Stock footage and social formats

Pictory matches your script to a stock-footage library, which is fast for marketing, social clips, and promotional video.

Blog and URL to video

Paste an article or URL and Pictory turns it into a short video, a job Scholarly is not designed for.

Low price and a long editor

Per its pricing page, Starter is $25 a month billed yearly, and its AI video editor handles up to 60 minutes on Starter and 180 on higher plans.

Where Scholarly Fits Better

Visuals that teach

Scholarly builds scenes from your document (step sequences, comparisons, charts, and the figures in your PDF) instead of matching stock b-roll to a script.

Up to 45 minutes from one document

Set any length up to 45 minutes on Premium or Laureate. Pictory caps script and URL videos at 30 minutes.

Over 70 narration languages

Narration, captions, and on-screen text in over 70 languages, with right-to-left layout for Arabic and Hebrew.

Chapters, transcript, and checkpoints

Every lecture is chaptered, with synced captions, a searchable transcript, and questions during playback.

A quiz from the same source

Generate a quiz, exam, flashcards, or slides from the document behind the video.

Use my script as written

When the wording is approved, the narrator keeps it word for word.

How Scholarly Works

Step 1: Upload the document

A PDF, Word file, PowerPoint deck, or your own script. Pick the pages this video should cover.

Step 2: Generate the lecture

Choose a length (up to 45 minutes on paid plans), a language, and a voice. Scholarly writes the narration from your pages and adds chapters, captions, and question checkpoints.

Step 3: Review and share

Read the transcript against the source, then share a link, add it to your team library, or download the MP4 and captions on a paid plan.

Scholarly vs Pictory: A Closer Look

Pictory is a popular, affordable video maker for marketing and social. Per its pricing page on October 22, 2026, Starter is $25 a month billed yearly ($29 monthly) with 30 minutes of video a month, and Professional is $35 billed yearly ($59 monthly) with 90 minutes. Script and URL videos are capped at 30 minutes, and its PDF-to-video page says files under 50 pages work best.

Scholarly is built for teaching rather than reach. Its scenes come from the document itself, and a lecture can run up to 45 minutes with chapters, synced captions, a transcript, and question checkpoints. The same source also makes a quiz, flashcards, or slides.

Pick Pictory for promotional and social video. Pick Scholarly when the video has to teach what is in an SOP, manual, deck, or textbook chapter.
