From source to outline in three steps
No formatting, no rearranging bullet points. Add your material and the AI builds the structure.
Add your sources
Upload PDFs, slides, or docs, pick a file from your library, paste a link, or just type a topic.
The agent reads and structures it
Scholarly finds the main topics in your material and nests the sub-points and details underneath each one.
Study, download, or share
Get a clean outline PDF you can read alongside chat, download to print, or turn into flashcards and a quiz.
An outline that mirrors your material
Grounded in your sources, built to help you see how the ideas fit together — not just skim a wall of text.
A clear hierarchy
Main topics, sub-points, and supporting details are nested in order (I / A / 1), so the structure is obvious at a glance.
Built from your material
The outline comes from the files and notes you add — not the open internet — so it matches what you're studying.
The right depth
The AI goes a few levels deep where the source is rich and stays shallow where it isn't, so nothing feels padded or thin.
Polished, themed PDF
Every outline is professionally typeset. Pick from four themes — Professional, Academic, Modern, or Playful — then download, print, or share it by link.
More study tools, one source
Turn the same material into flashcards, a quiz, a study guide, or a podcast without re-uploading.
Any subject
Organize a reading before you study, plan a paper, or turn a dense chapter into a scannable skeleton — for any course.
Seeing the structure is half of understanding it
When ideas are buried in paragraphs, it's hard to tell what's a main point and what's just support. An outline pulls them apart and nests them so the shape of the topic becomes visible.
Scholarly's outline is an AI agent: it reads your actual sources, decides what the main topics are, and nests the sub-points and details underneath with enough context to be useful — not a flat list of bullets to skim.
Because it's grounded in your own material, the outline reflects how your class organizes the topic. Use it to plan a paper, prep before a lecture, or hand it to flashcards and a quiz to move from recognizing the structure to recalling it.
Common questions
What can I make an outline from?
Uploaded PDFs, Word docs, and PowerPoints; files already in your library; Google Drive files; a website or PDF link; or just a typed prompt. You can mix several sources in one outline.
How is this different from the essay outline generator?
This tool structures any source into a topic hierarchy — great for organizing a reading or a chapter. If you're specifically planning an essay, the essay outline generator is shaped around thesis, arguments, and evidence to draft from.
Can I download or print my outline?
Yes. Every outline is a PDF you can download, print, or share with a link, and it lands in your library like any other file.
Is it free?
You can create outlines on the free plan using your shared lifetime AI creation credits, which don't reset. Paid plans raise those limits and support longer source documents.
