Generate 3D diagrams of systems and architectures

Open the architecture doc, spec, or equipment manual, or describe the system in chat. Scholarly's AI builds a labelled 3D diagram of its layers, components, and flows, ready for a design review, a training deck, or a video.

Beta. A full AI build uses 1 AI Creation Credit, and you confirm it first. Small chat edits are free.

Quick answer

When is a 3D diagram better than a flat one?

Updated October 2026 · 3D models are in Beta

When depth carries meaning: tiers of a cloud architecture, network zones, the subsystems of a machine, flows that pass through several levels. Scholarly's AI builds those diagrams in 3D from your PDF or description, writing them as three.js code with real geometry, materials, lighting, and labels from your source. For a flat flowchart you need to print, a 2D tool is still the better choice; for CAD-accurate engineering drawings, use CAD.

Architecture diagrams fight flatness. A 2D drawing of a multi-region deployment or an HVAC system either overlaps or sprawls. In 3D, layers sit above each other, tiers recede in depth, and you can switch to the perspective, front, side, or top view that makes the relationship obvious.

The AI builds from your source. It reads your PDF or description and writes the diagram as three.js code, so components can look like what they are, labels stay readable, and a flow can be animated along its path. You preview the draft and apply it or keep the diagram you have.

Diagrams change. Small edits, such as a label's wording, a colour, a size, an animation's speed, or the background, are free and appear on an approval card. Adding new components is a full build at 1 AI Creation Credit. On a paid plan, export a 4K or transparent PNG for a slide, a 1080p turntable MP4, or a .glb that opens in PowerPoint and Keynote.

How it works

How a 3D diagram gets built

Your source, an AI that builds from it, and your approval.

  1. 01

Open a PDF or start empty

Open the architecture doc, spec, or manual as a PDF, or start an empty model and describe the system in chat.

  2. 02

    Describe the system

Name the layers, tiers, or components, and what should sit where. Confirm the build, which uses 1 AI Creation Credit.

  3. 03

    The AI builds it

Over a few minutes it writes the diagram in three.js, with geometry, materials, lighting, labels, and animated flows where they help.

  4. 04

    Apply, keep it current, export

Preview and apply the draft, update labels and colours with free chat edits, then export an image, a video, or a .glb on a paid plan.

Use cases

Diagrams that benefit from depth

Anything with layers, tiers, or parts that sit in relation to each other.

Network and security architecture

Network layers, security zones, and traffic paths, separated in depth for a review or a training deck.

Cloud and IT architecture

Services, tiers, and data stores grouped and labelled, with requests animated through them.

Data pipelines

Sources, transformation stages, and destinations along a path.

Engineering systems and mechanisms

Subsystems and components from a spec, with moving parts such as a gear train animated.

Trades equipment

An HVAC unit, an electrical panel, or a plumbing system, each part labelled from the manual.

Training and enablement teams

Turn product and systems docs into visuals for onboarding slides and training videos.

Try asking

Requests for 3D diagrams

Say what goes on which level and what should stand out.

  • Build a 3D diagram of the OSI model, one layer per level, labelled.

  • Show the architecture in this PDF: web tier, services, and data stores as three levels.

  • Animate a request travelling from the load balancer to the database.

  • Colour each security zone in this document differently.

  • Model the components of the HVAC unit in this manual, with each part labelled.

  • Make the background white so I can export it for a slide.

Beta

What it can and can't do today

3D models are in Beta. For layered and system diagrams, here's what to expect.

Works today

  • Builds diagrams from one PDF, or from a description in an empty model's chat.
  • Real three.js geometry, physically based materials, lighting, and animation, not a handful of stock shapes.
  • Orbit and zoom, perspective, front, side, and top views, frame all, and a turntable.
  • On paid plans, export a 4K PNG, a transparent PNG, an 8-second 1080p turntable MP4, or a .glb file.

Not supported

  • Not CAD-accurate or engineering-grade. Models explain how something works; they are not measured designs.
  • No STL or OBJ export, and no 3D printing. Exports are images, a turntable video, and a .glb file.
  • No manual 3D editing tools: no sculpting and no dragging parts. You change a model by asking chat.
  • A model starts from one PDF or from an empty chat. For notes or slides, save them as a PDF, or describe the content in chat.
  • It's a Beta: preview every draft before you apply it, and check the labels before a model goes in front of a team.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can it draw arrows or connectors?

Ask for them in chat. Because the AI writes the diagram as three.js code, it can include lines, arrows, and leader lines to labels, and animate a flow along a path. For diagrams that depend on many precise connectors on paper, a 2D flowchart is still the better tool.

Can I export the diagram to PowerPoint, Keynote, or an image file?

Yes, on a paid plan: a 4K PNG, a PNG with a transparent background, an 8-second 1080p turntable video (MP4), and a .glb 3D file that opens in PowerPoint, Keynote, Blender, and web 3D viewers. There is no Visio, draw.io, STL, or OBJ export.

Should I use a 3D diagram or a flowchart?

Use a flowchart when the job is a sequence of steps and decisions on paper. Use a 3D diagram when layers, tiers, or physical parts are part of the meaning and you want to show it on screen, in a deck, or in a video.

Will it follow our architecture document?

Open the document as a PDF and ask for a diagram of it. The AI reads the pages before building and takes component names from them. Preview the draft before applying it, because Beta builds can miss or merge parts, and fix anything off by asking chat.

What does it cost?

Signing up is free. A full build uses 1 AI Creation Credit; you confirm it first, it runs for a few minutes, and you preview the draft before applying it. Small chat edits are free, and exports need a paid plan.

Is it accurate enough for engineering work?

No. Diagrams are explanatory 3D models, not CAD-accurate or engineering-grade, and there are no manual 3D editing tools; you change a diagram by asking chat. Use it to explain a system to people, and keep design work in your CAD or diagramming tools.
