How Long Do FE and PE Exam Results Take in 2026?

FE and PE exam results are typically available 7 to 10 days after your exam, and NCEES emails you when they are posted to your MyNCEES account. That is the official timing in the May 2026 NCEES Examinee Guide for every computer-based exam, which now means every NCEES exam: the FE, FS, PS, and all PE disciplines are delivered on computer at Pearson VUE test centers. The one published exception is the PE Structural depth exams, which need a standard-setting review and take 10 to 13 weeks. Results come back as pass or fail, with a diagnostic report if you did not pass, and your state licensing board handles what happens after that.

The official NCEES results timeline for 2026

The Examinee Guide lists every NCEES exam as either year-round or a single computer-based test date, so the old "8 to 10 weeks" wait that some state board pages still quote no longer matches NCEES guidance. Year-round exams post results on a rolling basis; the once-a-year exams share the same results window.

Three things to notice:

• NCEES publishes a range, not a release date. For the October 27-28 single-day exams, that puts most results roughly between November 3 and 7, 2026 by calendar days, or as late as November 11 if you count business days, but NCEES has not named a day and its word is "typically." Plan on the later end.
• The FE and PE exam pages say "7-10 business days", while the Examinee Guide, the Exam Scoring page, and the PE Structural page say "7-10 days." Treat the business-day version as the safe assumption.
• PE Structural depth is the slow lane. Sit on October 27 or 28 and 10 to 13 weeks lands roughly between January 5 and 27, 2027, not November.

How to check your FE or PE results

1. Watch for the NCEES email. It does not contain your result; it tells you results are posted and points you to MyNCEES.
2. Sign in at ncees.org and open your dashboard. The exam shows as pass or fail. There is no numeric score and no percentage.
3. Read the board-specific instructions in the results notice. What happens next differs by state.
4. If you did not pass, download the diagnostic report from the same screen. It is the only performance data you will get.

NCEES allows only one MyNCEES account per person, so the account you registered through is the only place the result will appear.

What to do if your results are late or missing

A missing result on day 10 almost always means delayed, not lost. Work through these in order:

• Count calendar days from the exam date. Ten days after an October 28 exam is November 7, and the range can include two weekends.
• Log in to MyNCEES even if no email arrived. The email is a courtesy; the account is the source of truth. Check spam as well.
• Confirm you are not in the Structural depth exception. Depth results follow the 10-13 week schedule.
• Consider whether your session had an irregularity. If NCEES finds an administration or scoring error it corrects it, which can mean a free retest or a refund, and it notifies you if a result is invalidated. Either path delays the posting.
• Contact NCEES, not your board, once the window has passed. Boards such as Texas PELS explicitly ask candidates not to call about scores, because the board only receives what NCEES reports.

What your result means and what happens next

Scoring. Your raw score is the number of correct answers, with no penalty for wrong ones. NCEES converts it to a scaled score and compares that to a passing standard set by subject-matter experts. The passing score is not published because it varies slightly between exam forms, there is no fixed pass percentage, and first-time and repeat takers are graded to the same standard.

If you passed. NCEES reports the pass to the licensing board you selected at registration. The board, not NCEES, grants licensure or engineer intern (EI, often called EIT) certification, and the Examinee Guide notes that some boards require a separate application and fee as part of their approval process. Check your board's requirements.

If you did not pass. The diagnostic report shows your performance in each major knowledge area as a scaled score from 0 to 15, next to the average performance of passing candidates. Areas well below the passing average are the ones that cost you the exam; areas near or just above it are where more study raises your margin. NCEES does not re-score computer-based exams and will not release your questions or answers, so the report is the whole picture. You may attempt a given exam once per testing window (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December) and no more than three times in any 12-month period, unless your board is stricter. For the once-a-year exams, the next sitting is April or October 2027.
