Simulate the Real Exam, Not Just the Questions
A practice test is only useful if it feels like the real thing. Scholarly's exam mode recreates test-day conditions end to end.
Timed attempts
Set a time limit and answer under the clock. Building pacing is half of exam prep — knowing the material is worthless if you run out of time on question 14.
Mixed question formats
Multiple choice, true/false, short answer, and fill-in-the-blank in a single sitting, so switching formats mid-exam doesn't throw you on the real day.
Score report
Finish and get a percentage score with a correct/incorrect breakdown, plus attempt history so you can watch your score climb across retakes.
Weak-area drill-down
Weak-spot weighting biases your next attempt toward the concepts you missed, so every retake spends your time where it actually moves your score.
The free generator on this page gives you instant questions, answers, and explanations from pasted notes. For the full simulation — timers, score reports, attempt history, and weak-spot retakes on PDFs, slides, and lecture recordings — create a free Scholarly account.
Built to make you exam-ready
Every question is grounded in the material you provide, with answers and explanations that teach, not just test.
Multiple question types
Mix multiple choice, short answer, and true/false to match how your real exam is structured.
Adjustable difficulty
Choose easy, medium, hard, or mixed so you can warm up and then push yourself toward exam level.
Explanations that teach
Every answer comes with a clear explanation, so a wrong answer turns into something you actually learn.
Grounded in your material
Questions are built from the notes you paste in, not generic trivia, so practice maps to your course.
Tests understanding
Questions probe concepts and relationships instead of rote recall of arbitrary numbers and dates.
Ready in seconds
Generate a full practice test on demand, then regenerate as often as you need before the exam.
Practice testing beats re-reading
Updated June 2026
Decades of learning research point to the same conclusion: actively retrieving an answer locks it into memory far better than passively re-reading your notes. A practice test forces that retrieval on every question.
Scholarly builds each question from the material you provide, so you practice exactly what your course covers — not generic trivia. Difficulty levels let you start gently and ramp up to exam intensity as the test approaches.
Because every question ships with an explanation, a missed answer becomes a teaching moment instead of a dead end. You close the gap in your understanding right when it matters most.
Not every study session needs a full exam. For quick, low-stakes checks on a single chapter or topic, the AI quiz generator builds shorter quizzes from the same sources — many students quiz chapter by chapter during the semester, then switch to full timed practice tests in the final two weeks.
Frequently asked questions
How do I generate a practice test?
Paste your study material into the generator above, choose the number of questions, the difficulty, and the question types, and the AI builds a custom practice test with answers and explanations in seconds. With a free account you can also upload PDFs, slides, and lecture recordings instead of pasting text.
What question types are available?
Multiple choice, short answer, true/false, and mixed. In the full app, exam mode adds fill-in-the-blank questions, so a mixed test covers the same range of formats your real exam will.
Can the practice test be timed like a real exam?
Yes. The free tool on this page is untimed, but exam mode in the Scholarly app lets you set a time limit before you start. You answer under the clock and only see results after submitting — the same conditions as the real exam room.
Do I get a score report?
Yes. After each timed attempt you get a percentage score and a question-by-question correct/incorrect breakdown. Scholarly also keeps your attempt history, so you can see whether you went from 62% to 78% to 91% as exam day approaches.
How does weak-area drill-down work?
Scholarly tracks which questions and concepts you miss. With weak-spot weighting turned on, your next attempt draws more questions from the areas you got wrong — so retakes drill your gaps instead of re-asking what you already know.
What's the difference between a practice test and a quiz?
A quiz is short and topic-level — 10-20 questions on one chapter, usually untimed. A practice test is a full exam simulation: longer, timed, mixed question formats, and scored at the end. Use quizzes throughout the semester and practice tests in the final stretch before the exam.
Is the practice test generator free?
Yes. The generator on this page is free with no account. A free Scholarly account adds timed exam mode, score reports, and uploads (PDFs, slides, recordings) with daily AI creation limits; paid plans raise those limits.
Can I generate a practice test from a PDF?
Yes. On this page you paste text; with a free account you upload the PDF itself — a textbook chapter, past paper, or lecture handout — and Scholarly generates the practice test directly from it, with explanations grounded in the document.
