GPT 6.1 Sol Is Live on Scholarly
GPT 6.1 Sol replaces GPT 6 Sol as OpenAI's Recommended creation model on Scholarly, with the same credit cost and saved selections carried over.

OpenAI released GPT 6.1 Sol on September 29, and it is now on Scholarly. It replaces GPT 6 Sol and takes over its slot in the creation tools.
GPT 6.1 Sol is the mid-tier reasoning model in OpenAI's GPT-6 family and an upgrade to GPT 6 Sol. OpenAI describes it as offering "near-Astra intelligence for coding, computer use, and professional work at one-fifth of Astra's standard API prices." Professional work is what most of our customers use Scholarly for: turning policies, product docs, filings, and exam guides into training decks, research reports, and podcasts.
Where You Can Use It
GPT 6.1 Sol is a creation model. It appears under Recommended Models with the Strong reasoning label in:
- Deep Research
- AI Slides
- AI Video Lectures
- Infographics
- Podcasts
- Customization profiles, if you want a saved profile to always use it
It is available on every paid plan and costs the same number of AI Creation Credits per creation as GPT 6 Sol did. It does not have a 2× or 3× badge.
GPT 6.1 Sol is not offered in AI Chat. GPT 6 Sol has been creation-only since September 13, and GPT 6.1 Sol keeps that rule. Flashcards also keep their own lineup, which does not include it.
Your Saved Selections Carry Over
You don't need to do anything. If you chose GPT 6 Sol in a creation tool or a customization profile, that selection now uses GPT 6.1 Sol automatically, and anything you already created stays as it is.
The rest of the OpenAI lineup is unchanged:
- GPT 6 Luna is still the default model for new chats and creations.
- GPT 6 Astra is still the OpenAI option under Frontier Models, at 3 AI Creation Credits.
What Changes Under the Hood
OpenAI lists these details for GPT 6.1 Sol:
- 1,050,000-token context window, with up to 128,000 output tokens per response
- Text and image input
- Knowledge cutoff of April 30, 2026
- Reasoning effort settings from low through max
- List price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, the same as GPT 6 Sol. Cached input is $0.10 per million tokens, half of GPT 6 Sol's $0.20.
That context window is large enough to hold a long handbook, a full set of filings, or a stack of meeting transcripts in one creation. Your credit cost on Scholarly stays the same.
A Note for Teams
Like GPT 6 Sol, GPT 6.1 Sol runs under OpenAI's zero data retention terms. Teams with Require Zero Data Retention turned on can still use it, just as they could use GPT 6 Sol. See Team data and security for how the rule works.
How to Try It
- Open Scholarly and start a research report, slide deck, video lecture, podcast, or infographic from your sources.
- Open the model menu in creation settings.
- Choose GPT 6.1 Sol under Recommended Models.
See Choosing an AI Model for the full list of models and their costs. Older blog posts and release notes still refer to GPT 6 Sol because they describe what was available when they were written.
