The 2026 AP CSA exam is the first run of the revised course, taken fully digitally in Bluebook. Section I gives you 90 minutes for 42 multiple-choice questions with four answer choices each (55% of your score). Section II gives you 90 minutes for four free-response questions worth 25 rubric points total (45%): Q1 Methods and Control Structures (7 points), Q2 writing a complete class (7 points), Q3 ArrayList data analysis (5 points), and Q4 2D arrays (6 points) — the same four types, in the same order, every year.
Your raw points never go to colleges. The College Board combines your weighted section results into a composite score, then converts that composite to the 1-to-5 scale using a process called equating. Equating adjusts the cutoffs for each year's exam so that a 4 in 2026 represents the same level of mastery as a 4 in 2025, even if one version was slightly harder.
That is why no calculator — including this one — can tell you your exact score in advance, and it matters even more this year: the 2026 revision shortened the FRQs from 36 to 25 points, added a 42nd MCQ, dropped inheritance, and shifted the weighting to 55/45, so there is no released scoring worksheet for the new format yet. This calculator maps your raw scores onto cutoffs estimated from released past exams, which is precise enough to set a realistic target and to spot where extra points are cheapest for you.
Unlike AP Bio or the histories, AP CSA's curve runs high: released curves have put a 5 near 77% of the composite — one of the steepest cutoffs of any AP exam. That is the flip side of forgiving rubrics. FRQ points attach to concrete code components (a correct loop bound, a proper method call, the right return), minor syntax slips usually cost nothing, and strong coders routinely walk out with near-perfect free-response scores, which pushes the boundaries up.
