When Do PSAT Scores Come Out? 2026 Dates
Official College Board release dates for October 2026 PSAT/NMSQT scores, how to check them in BigFuture School, and the National Merit timeline that follows.
PSAT/NMSQT scores from the October 2026 administration come out on October 22, November 5, or November 12, 2026, depending on when your school finishes testing. College Board has published the fall 2026 release schedule: schools whose students submit answers by October 9 see student scores on October 22; submissions by October 23 release to students on November 5; and submissions by October 30 release on November 12. Because most schools test in mid-to-late October, most students should expect scores in early-to-mid November. Scores are delivered digitally: through the BigFuture School app if you gave a mobile number on test day, and through a personal College Board account at studentscores.collegeboard.org for students 13 and older.
October 2026 PSAT/NMSQT score release dates
Unlike the SAT, the PSAT/NMSQT has no single national test day. Schools administer it on a day they choose inside the fall in-school testing window, which College Board has set at October 1-30, 2026. Score release then depends on when your school's answer submissions go in, not on a per-test-date table. Here is the official fall 2026 schedule as of August 28, 2026:

Three things to notice:
- Your test day decides your batch. Test in the first week and a half of October and you are in the October 22 release; test mid-month and you are looking at November 5; test in the last week of the window and it is November 12. If you are not sure which day your school tested, your counselor knows.
- Educators see scores about two days before students. Teachers and counselors get access through the K-12 reporting portal on the portal date above, so your school may know scores are in before your app does.
- State testing programs can differ. College Board notes that schools administering the PSAT/NMSQT as part of a state testing program should confirm score timing with the state, so if your school tests through a state contract, treat the dates above as the general schedule and your counselor as the source of truth.
There is no published release time. Like SAT releases, scores appear during the day rather than at a promised hour, so a blank score page in the morning is not a problem.
How to check your PSAT score
College Board delivers PSAT/NMSQT scores three ways:
- BigFuture School app. If you provided your mobile number on test day, you will get a text when scores are ready with instructions to download the BigFuture School app and sign in. If you did not provide a number, you can sign in with your test registration number instead.
- Personal College Board account. Students age 13 and older can view scores and additional insights online at studentscores.collegeboard.org using a College Board account, the same account you will later use for the SAT.
- Your school. Counselors can print your score report, and since educators get portal access before students, asking your counselor is the fastest route if your app is empty on release day.
Your score report shows a total score on the 320-1520 scale, section scores for Reading and Writing and for Math, and your NMSC Selection Index, the number that matters for National Merit.
The National Merit timeline after the October 2026 PSAT
The October 2026 PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying test for the 2028 National Merit Scholarship Program, the competition cycle for juniors in the class of 2028. NMSC expects roughly 3.5 million students to take the test, with about 1.2 million meeting the entry requirements. The competition runs about 18 months, from entry in fall 2026 to scholarship awards in spring 2028:
- Late 2026: Your Selection Index is calculated from your score: double your Reading and Writing section score, add your Math section score, divide by ten. The scale runs 48 to 228.
- September 2027: Semifinalists and Commended Students. From roughly 50,000 high scorers, more than 16,000 students qualify as Semifinalists, notified through their high schools in early September, with names released publicly in mid-September. High scorers who are not Semifinalists receive Letters of Commendation in early September; Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships.
- February 2028: Finalists. Semifinalists who complete the scholarship application and meet the other requirements are notified of Finalist standing by mail in early February.
- March-June 2028: winners. Scholarship winners are notified on a rolling basis beginning in March and ending in June.
One thing nobody can tell you yet: the Semifinalist cutoff for your state. Cutoffs are set after scoring, vary by state, and are not published in advance by NMSC, so ignore any site claiming to know the 2028 cutoffs today. If your Selection Index lands near your state's historical range, treat September 2027 as the date that actually answers the question.
What to actually do with a PSAT score
The PSAT is practice with stakes, and the score report is most useful in the two weeks after release:
- Read the section gap, not the total. A 40-point gap between Reading and Writing and Math tells you where your SAT prep should start. The PSAT and SAT test the same skills on adjacent scales, so a weakness here is a weakness there.
