Scholarly November 2025 Updates Recap
November was packed with major upgrades: Research 0.5 Beta, GPT 5.1 in Chat, powerful flashcard filters, expanded podcast features, and dozens of quality-of-life improvements across the platform.

November 2025 was a transformative month for Scholarly. We rebuilt Research from the ground up, brought GPT 5.1 to chat, overhauled flashcard filtering, and shipped dozens of improvements across podcasts, sharing, and mobile. Here's everything that changed.
Major Features
Research 0.5 Beta
We completely rebuilt Research from the ground up — it's smarter, faster, and far more powerful:
- Background Processing: Close the tab and your research keeps running. Come back anytime to see the results.
- Much Smarter & Faster: Improved AI that goes deeper and works longer on complex topics.
- Beautiful Report Banners: Each research report now includes a custom-generated banner image.
- More Tools: New research tools for better, more comprehensive results.
- Note: Older research reports were migrated to the new system and may be missing some data like sources.
GPT 5.1 in Chat
GPT 5.1 is now available in Scholarly's chat:
- Clean, reliable responses with no quirks.
- Features adaptive reasoning, available behind the "Think Longer" flag.
- Much richer content understanding for PDFs and documents.
Powerful New Flashcard Filters & Sorting
We completely redesigned how you filter and sort your flashcards:
- Categories: Automatically organizes your cards into topics so you can study specific subjects.
- Difficulty Sorting: Sort cards from Easiest to Hardest (or vice versa) based on their difficulty level.
- PDF Page Filtering: Filter cards based on the specific pages they were generated from.
- Combined Filters: Mix and match filters to create the perfect study session.
Exporting Flashcards & Quizzes
Export your flashcards and quizzes to PDFs, print them, and more:
- All export methods available for both flashcards and quizzes.
- When exporting or printing, decide whether answers stay in — turn them off to create clean worksheets.
Shared Content Improvements
Major strides toward collaborative content:
- Chat with shared content — both voice and text work with public or shared items.
- Quiz mode is now much more flexible for shared content.
AI & Model Updates
- GPT 5.1 is now available in chat.
- Gemini 2.5 Flash added as a new model option.
- GPT-4.1-mini added and set as the default chat model.
- Improved AI personality across chat conversations.
- Model selector reintroduced — premium users get access to GPT-5 and other premium models.
Podcast Improvements
- Newly generated podcasts now include AI-generated chapter banners.
- Podcasts generate faster.
- Improved podcast transcripts — better creativity and voice quality.
- Podcasts can now be linked to chat.
- Podcast citations now shown in chat.
- Podcast chapters view added inside chat.
- Language selection for podcasts — choose your preferred language.
- MP3 download — save podcasts to listen offline.
- Email notifications when a podcast finishes generating.
Flashcard & Study Improvements
- Quiz questions now generate immediately when you create flashcards — the experience is much smoother.
- PDF to flashcards speed doubled — an 87-page PDF went from ~10 minutes to ~4 minutes.
- Improved flashcard generation quality.
- "Direct Request" option in flashcard creator — have AI generate flashcards with minimal effort.
- "Auto" density option for flashcard generation.
- Retry flashcard creation without re-uploading files.
- Flashcards Autoplay redesigned: dependent on audio finish, no more audio cutoff, customizable speed and delay.
- Added filtering to quizzes.
- Switch the current question type during study.
- Start making flashcards the moment you upload files via the new "Create Flashcards" shortcut in Add Content.
- Anki export restored.
- Free users can now generate up to 100 pages at once.
Chat & Voice Updates
- Chat now has more context about the flashcard you're studying.
- Greatly improved text chat — more capable and intelligent with complex queries.
- Major voice system overhaul — more intelligent context understanding with full feature parity to text chat.
- Voice mode now includes a text box with recent messages shown.
- "Reduce Motion" toggle in chat settings — messages appear fully generated instead of streaming.
- Shift+Enter now adds new lines in chat messages.
- Stop button works properly mid-sentence.
- Past conversations are now remembered.
- Your selected model now saves across sessions.
Performance & Reliability
- Greatly improved load times across the entire app.
- Improved large PDF file handling — considerably faster.
- Faster search results.
- Improved UI for different screen sizes.
- Better mobile experience across video, podcast, PDF, and flashcard pages.
- Improved language support.
- Faster performance for users with large content libraries.
Quality of Life
- Delete podcasts and videos directly from their pages.
- Deleted content automatically removed after 30 days.
- Added back recents to the sidebar.
- Smoother YouTube video uploading.
- Improved flashcards merge system.
- Fixed subscription badge incorrectly showing trial.
- Improved referral system with email notifications.
- Plus users now have the same perks as Ultimate.
- Free plan limits adjusted to 10 flashcard pages and 30 PDF pages per PDF.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed image-only PDFs failing to process.
- Fixed quiz questions sometimes failing to generate.
- Fixed chat reactions not working.
- Fixed linking content in chat.
- Fixed podcast chapter timestamps all showing as 0s.
- Fixed folders not archiving.
- Fixed merge flashcards page not working.
- Fixed home page flashcard titles not updating.
- Fixed password-protected PDF upload errors.
- Various other stability fixes.
