Scholarly Now Supports Word and PowerPoint Documents

We're excited to announce that Scholarly now supports Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. You can now upload DOCX and PPTX files anywhere you could previously upload PDFs, and they'll work seamlessly with all of our AI-powered study tools.

What This Means for You

Starting today, you can upload Microsoft Word documents and PowerPoint presentations throughout Scholarly. Whether you're creating flashcards from your lecture slides, getting AI help with your research paper, or chatting with your class presentations, Scholarly now handles all your study materials in one place.

The best part? You don't need to convert your files to PDF first. Just upload your DOCX or PPTX files directly, and Scholarly automatically processes them so you can use every feature you're already familiar with.

Where You Can Use Office Documents

Word and PowerPoint documents work everywhere PDFs do:

Create Flashcards

Turn your lecture slides and class notes into study materials instantly. Upload a PowerPoint presentation from class, and our AI will generate flashcards covering all the key concepts. Your Word documents with course notes work the same way.

Research and Study Help

Upload Word documents to get AI assistance with your essays and research papers. Ask questions, get suggestions, and improve your writing without switching between different tools or file formats.

Chat with Documents

Have a PowerPoint presentation you need to understand better? Upload it and start asking questions. The AI can explain concepts, summarize slides, and help you prepare for exams based on your presentation materials.

All Other Tools

Every tool that worked with PDFs now works with Word and PowerPoint files too. Summarizers, analyzers, and all our other AI-powered features support these formats automatically.

How It Works

The process is simple and automatic:

When you upload a Word document or PowerPoint presentation, Scholarly converts it to a format our AI can work with. This happens instantly in the background, so you won't notice any difference in how you use the platform.

Your original file name is preserved, and the document appears in your library just like any other file. From there, you can use it with flashcard generation, AI chat, summaries, and every other Scholarly feature.

Supported File Types

We now support these Microsoft Office formats:

Word Documents:

  • DOCX (modern Word format)
  • DOC (legacy Word format)

PowerPoint Presentations:

  • PPTX (modern PowerPoint format)
  • PPT (legacy PowerPoint format)

All of these formats work with the same file size limits and upload quotas as PDFs. If you're on the free plan, Word and PowerPoint uploads count toward your daily upload limit just like PDF uploads do.

Getting Started

There's nothing new to learn. If you know how to upload a PDF to Scholarly, you already know how to upload Word and PowerPoint files:

  1. Go to any part of Scholarly where you can upload files
  2. Select your Word document or PowerPoint presentation
  3. Upload it and start using it immediately

Your file will be processed automatically, and you can begin creating flashcards, chatting with the content, or using any other Scholarly feature right away.

Why We Added This

We heard from many students that they have valuable study materials in Word and PowerPoint formats. Previously, you had to convert these files to PDF before uploading them, which added an extra step and sometimes caused formatting issues.

Now you can work directly with the files your professors share and the documents you create for class. Upload your essay drafts, lecture slides, and course notes in their original formats, and let Scholarly help you study more effectively.

SEO-Optimized Tools

We've also created dedicated landing pages for these new capabilities:

  • DOCX to Flashcards: Convert Word documents into study materials
  • Word to Flashcards: Generate flashcards from Microsoft Word files
  • PPTX to Flashcards: Turn PowerPoint slides into flashcards
  • PowerPoint to Flashcards: Create study materials from presentations

These pages are optimized to help students find Scholarly when searching for ways to convert their office documents into flashcards and other study materials.

What's Next

This update lays the groundwork for supporting even more file formats in the future. We're constantly working to make Scholarly more flexible and useful for all types of study materials.
