Scholarly February 2026 Updates Recap
February 2026 was massive: Lecture Recordings launched, AI-generated presentations and documents in chat, Tables for Pages, a redesigned file preview panel, exam presets, Focus Mode, and much more.

February 2026 was one of our biggest months ever. We launched Lecture Recordings, brought AI-generated presentations and documents to chat, added Tables to Pages, completely rebuilt the file preview panel, introduced exam presets, and shipped Focus Mode. Here's the full rundown.
Major Features
Lecture Recordings (Beta)
Record lectures directly inside Scholarly, or upload audio files you already have. We handle the rest — transcription, summaries, topics, and AI chat.
Live Recording Hit Record from the Create menu, home page, or sidebar to start capturing audio in your browser. Audio uploads continuously so nothing is lost if your connection drops. Pause and resume at any time — maximum 3 hours.
Upload Audio Files Upload MP3, M4A, WAV, WebM, or OGG files from the Upload modal, home page, or flashcard creator. Uploaded audio goes through the same transcription and processing pipeline as live recordings.
Transcription & Processing Audio is automatically transcribed with timestamps. Click any transcript segment to seek the audio player to that moment. After transcription, an AI-generated summary, topic list, and title are created.
Recording Page Each recording gets its own page with an audio player, transcript tab, summary tab, topics tab, and AI chat. Playback speed control (0.5x–3x), seek, skip forward/back, and keyboard shortcuts. Download the original audio anytime.
Chat with Your Recording A dedicated AI chat panel on every completed recording. The AI searches your transcript to answer questions with context from the actual lecture.
Flashcards from Audio Recordings are a first-class flashcard source — create flashcards from audio the same way you do from PDFs or videos.
Sharing Share recordings with a link for others to listen, read the transcript, view summaries, and see topics. Comments and reactions supported.
Search Recordings appear in Cmd+K search, Explore page, home content, folder views, and Recent sections. Type "lecture" or "audio" to find recordings quickly.
Create Presentations, Documents & PDFs in Chat
Your AI tutor can now build PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, and PDFs:
- Ask for slides on any topic and get a fully designed PPTX.
- Generate essays, reports, or study guides as Word documents.
- Create formatted PDFs for assignments or reference materials.
- New "Make slides" and "Create PDF" quick actions on the chat home screen.
- Generated files have a "Preview" button that opens an inline viewer.
- Download multiple files as a single .zip file.
Tables for Pages
Add tables to your pages with full formatting support:
- Add and remove rows or columns from the right-click menu.
- Resize columns by dragging borders.
- Toggle a header row for organization.
- Set background colors on individual cells.
- Tab through cells quickly.
- Tables are included when you export your page as PDF or Markdown.
- AI Edit for Tables — select a table and click AI Edit to rewrite, shorten, or restructure.
Redesigned File Preview Panel
The chat file preview was completely rebuilt to support every file type:
- PDFs, images, CSVs, code, Markdown, and plain text — all in one resizable side panel.
- Drag the left edge to resize between 350–900px. Your preferred width is remembered.
- CSV files render as a clean spreadsheet table with sticky headers.
- Markdown rendered with full formatting.
- Code files display with line numbers (30+ languages).
- Images open inline in the panel.
- Navigate between files with prev/next arrows or the file picker dropdown.
- User-uploaded files are now clickable — click any file pill to preview it instantly.
Exam Presets
Three new presets for instant practice:
- Quick Quiz: 15 questions, mixed types.
- Full Exam: 50 questions, 45 minutes timed.
- Weak Spots: 20 questions weighted toward cards you struggle with, using your study progress data.
- Clicking a preset creates and starts the exam immediately.
- New Exit button to abandon an active exam.
- Active exam header shows title, question count, and elapsed timer.
Focus Mode Auto-Start
Opening study mode now launches a 10-question Focus Mode session automatically:
- Picks questions using Quick Review, prioritizing cards you haven't seen recently.
- Free users who hit their daily limit see an upgrade prompt with their score summary.
Chat & AI Improvements
New File Previews in Chat
- Calendar files (.ics) show full event previews grouped by date.
- HTML files render in a live preview.
- SVG files render visually with animation support.
- Audio files show an inline player.
- Video files play inline with native controls.
Share Your Chats
Share AI chat conversations with a public link:

Enhanced File Downloads
- Download PowerPoint and Word documents as original format or PDF.
- Download all files in a conversation as a single .zip.

Smarter AI for Media
- Video, podcast, and recording chats now include timestamps — the AI can point you to exactly when something was said.
- Podcast responses show speaker names instead of generic labels.
- AI no longer loads entire transcripts upfront — searches only the parts it needs for faster, more focused responses.
Grouped Tool Execution
When the AI runs multiple steps (e.g., building a presentation), they're grouped into a single collapsible block for a cleaner experience.
Smarter Text Autocomplete
Autocomplete now better matches your writing voice, handles transition words with context, and adapts based on which suggestions you accept or reject.
Flashcard & Study Improvements
Improved Flashcard Generation Quality
- Stronger question quality — reduced fragment prompts and templated stems like "According to the notes…"
- Hints improved to be more useful without giving away the answer.
- Better post-processing catches weak cards (duplicates, vague prompts) and rewrites or removes them.
Comprehensive Flashcard Creator
The comprehensive customization experience is now the default:
- Presets, quick tweaks, and advanced options are standard across all creation flows.
- The older legacy customization has been removed.
Upload Content Rework
- Files upload immediately when you select them — no extra button click needed.
- New action screen after upload: Ask AI, Create Flashcards, Create Quiz, or Create Podcast.
Flashcard Study Mode Redesign
- Hint, Ask AI, and Favorites are now color-coded pill buttons on both front and back faces.
- Difficulty shown as a text label for cleaner design.
Unified Flashcard Creation
PDF and Video pages now use the same full-screen creator modal as the home page, with density selection, custom instructions, language choice, and multi-source support.
Quiz Mode Improvements
- Previous/next navigation buttons with a question counter.
- Filters and Question Type controls moved to the 3-dots menu to reduce clutter.
- Multiple choice displayed as a vertical list instead of a 2-column grid.
Content & Search
Video Transcript Search
- Search through video transcripts to find specific moments or topics.
