Claude Sonnet 5 is Live on Scholarly
Claude Sonnet 5 is now available in Scholarly for AI Chat and as a Best quality model for AI Slides and AI Video Lectures.
Claude Sonnet 5 Comes to Scholarly
Scholarly now supports Claude Sonnet 5, Anthropic's newest Sonnet model, across the study workflows where careful reasoning matters most.
You can use Sonnet 5 in AI Chat for long PDFs, dense readings, hard questions, essay feedback, and multi-step explanations. Paid users can also choose it as a Best quality model for AI Slides and AI Video Lectures when a source needs stronger visual reasoning or more deliberate structure.
This replaces the older Claude Sonnet option in the current model picker. If you had a saved Sonnet 4.6 selection, Scholarly now routes that choice to Sonnet 5 automatically.
Where You Can Use It
AI Chat. Open the model menu above the chat input and choose Claude Sonnet 5. It works with linked PDFs, recordings, pages, web search, code execution, generated files, and the rest of the AI Chat toolkit.
AI Slides. When you want a stronger pass on a deck, choose Sonnet 5 from the model selector before generating. It is especially useful for dense PDFs, technical topics, and presentations that need careful organization.
AI Video Lectures. Pick Sonnet 5 as a Best quality model when the lesson needs more deliberate planning across narration, visuals, and source interpretation.
Claude Haiku 4.5 stays available as the faster everyday Claude option in chat.
Why It Matters for Studying
Most students do not need the strongest model for every question. A quick definition, a short summary, or a lightweight study plan should stay fast. But some work benefits from a more careful model:
- Reading a long article or textbook chapter without losing the thread.
- Working through multi-step math, science, or logic questions.
- Turning dense source material into a slide deck with a clear structure.
- Creating a video lecture from material that needs careful visual explanation.
- Getting a second explanation when another model's answer feels too shallow.
Sonnet 5 gives Scholarly a stronger Claude path for those moments without changing the rest of the workflow. Your sources, saved chats, generated files, flashcards, slides, and videos still live in one place.
What Happens to Sonnet 4.6?
For current model pickers, Sonnet 5 replaces Sonnet 4.6. Existing saved selections continue to work and now resolve to Sonnet 5, so you do not need to restart old chats, change settings, or update saved feature preferences manually.
Older release notes and blog posts may still mention Sonnet 4.6 because they describe what shipped at that time.
How to Try It
Open Scholarly, start a chat, and choose Claude Sonnet 5 from the model menu. For AI Slides or AI Video Lectures, open the create flow, choose the model selector, and pick Sonnet 5 before generating.
Sonnet 5 is available on paid plans where premium model selection is unlocked. Free users can keep using the fast default models and upgrade when they want access to the stronger Claude path.
