Why students love it

Worksheets built from your own material

Stop hunting for practice problems that almost match your class. Generate a worksheet straight from the source you're studying.

Source-grounded problems

Upload a PDF, Word doc, slide deck, text file, or spreadsheet — or paste a website URL — and the questions are written from that exact content, not a generic template.

Print-ready PDF

Every worksheet comes back as a clean, downloadable PDF formatted for printing. Hand it out in class, work through it on paper, or save it to your library.

Answer keys when you want them

Choose a style with a built-in answer key and worked solutions, or a Blank Worksheet with problems only and no visible answers. You decide what students see.

How it works

How it works

Three steps from your source material to a printable worksheet.

01

Select or upload sources

Pick from your library (PDFs, files), upload new PDFs, Word, PowerPoint, text, or spreadsheet files, add a Google Drive document, paste a website URL — or skip sources and type a topic. Up to 3 sources per worksheet.

02

Customize style and instructions

Choose a worksheet style — Practice Set, Mixed Review, Quiz + Key, or Blank. Pick your AI model (free or premium), set the language, and add custom instructions like "include 50% application questions" or "add a short answer key".

03

Generate and download

The AI writes the worksheet from your sources in a few minutes, returns a downloadable PDF, and saves it to your library as generated content — ready to print.

Worksheet styles

Four worksheet styles

The same source material, shaped into the kind of worksheet you actually need.

Practice Set

Most popular

A balanced set of practice problems with a full answer key. The everyday option for working through a chapter or topic.

Mixed Review

Included

A progression of warm-ups, core questions, application problems, and a challenge — great for review days and exam prep.

Quiz + Key

Included

Assessment-style questions with an answer key, ready to use as a graded quiz or self-check.

Blank Worksheet

Included

Problems only, with no visible answers — a clean student handout for in-class problem-solving.

Every style returns a downloadable, printable PDF saved to your library. Answer keys appear on Practice Set, Mixed Review, and Quiz + Key — never on a Blank Worksheet.

What you get

Everything in your worksheet

Built for teachers, study groups, and students who need practice on real material.

Four worksheet styles

Practice Set, Mixed Review, Quiz + Key, and Blank Worksheet — each shaped for a different study or teaching moment.

Multi-format sources

PDFs, Word (.doc, .docx), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx), text files (.txt, .md, .csv), and spreadsheets all become source material.

Google Drive & websites

Add a Google Drive document through Drive auth, or paste a website URL — a live web page or a hosted PDF — as a source.

Topic prompt mode

No file to upload? Skip sources entirely and just describe the worksheet topic — the AI writes it from scratch.

Up to 3 sources combined

Merge up to three sources into one worksheet to pull problems across multiple chapters, papers, or documents.

Custom instructions

Shape the worksheet in plain language — vary question types, adjust difficulty, set spacing, or request worked solutions.

Answer keys & worked solutions

Built into Practice Set, Mixed Review, and Quiz + Key. Choose Blank to hand out problems with no answers shown.

Language selection

Generate your worksheet in a language other than English — pick the language before you generate.

Printable PDF output

Download a clean, print-ready PDF formatted for the classroom or for working through on paper.

Saved to your library

Every worksheet lands in your library as generated PDF content, alongside your flashcards, slides, and guides.

AI model selection

Free plans use a single model; Ultimate unlocks premium model options for higher-quality generations.

Background processing

Generation runs in the background — close the browser and the worksheet keeps building, then waits in your library.

Best for

Who it's for

Real ways teachers, study groups, and students turn their material into practice.

Teachers

Create practice worksheets or quizzes from your class notes. Example: a biology teacher uploads a lecture PDF and generates a Quiz + Key with 15 assessment questions.

Study groups

Turn textbook chapters or research papers into practice problems. Example: a group uploads an organic chemistry chapter and generates a Mixed Review with worked examples.

Exam prep

Turn study guides into varied-difficulty problem sets. Example: a student pastes a website URL of practice problems and generates a Practice Set with a full answer key.

Instructors & handouts

Make blank student handouts from existing course materials. Example: a professor uploads a slide deck and generates a Blank Worksheet for in-class problem-solving.

Honest comparison

How Scholarly compares

Other tools are great at what they do — but they aren't built to turn your own sources into a printable worksheet. Here's where each one wins.

Quizlet

Best for flashcard review. Strong study modes and a big peer-created library, with a polished mobile app.

Great for card-based memorization and quick self-testing on the go.

Doesn't generate custom worksheets from your own sources.

Focused on cards, not problem sets or printable PDFs.

Canva

Best for visual design. Beautiful templates, drag-and-drop layout, and branded aesthetics.

Great when you want a worksheet to look exactly a certain way.

You enter all the content and design it yourself.

Doesn't AI-generate problems from your PDFs or lecture notes.

Best for studying
Scholarly

Best for worksheets from your own material. Turns your PDF, notes, slides, or a topic into a printable PDF worksheet.

Four styles, optional answer keys, and worked solutions.

Source-grounded problems from up to 3 documents at once.

Free to start, saved to your library, ready to print.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the AI worksheet generator work?

Select or upload your sources — PDFs, Word docs, PowerPoint, text files, spreadsheets, a Google Drive document, or a website URL — or skip sources and type a topic. Choose a worksheet style and add any custom instructions, then generate. The AI writes a full worksheet grounded in your content and returns a downloadable, printable PDF in a few minutes.

What files can I upload as a source?

PDF documents, Word files (.doc, .docx), PowerPoint files (.ppt, .pptx), text files (.txt, .md, .csv, and similar), and spreadsheet files (Excel, Google Sheets). You can also add a Google Drive document through Drive authorization, or paste a website URL pointing to a live page or a hosted PDF. Up to 3 sources can be combined into one worksheet.

Do I need to upload a file?

No. If you don't select any sources, just describe the worksheet topic directly and the AI will write it from scratch. Uploading your own material is what makes the worksheet match your class exactly, but a typed topic prompt works on its own.

What worksheet styles are available?

Four: Practice Set (a balanced set with a full answer key), Mixed Review (warm-ups, core questions, application, and a challenge), Quiz + Key (assessment-style questions with an answer key), and Blank Worksheet (problems only, no visible answers).

Does the worksheet include an answer key?

Yes, on the Practice Set, Mixed Review, and Quiz + Key styles — they come with answer keys and worked solutions built in. The Blank Worksheet style intentionally shows problems only, with no visible answers, so you can hand it out as a student worksheet.

What does the output look like?

A downloadable, print-ready PDF worksheet. It's saved to your library as generated PDF content, so you can return to it, download it again, or print it whenever you need.

How long does it take?

Most worksheets finish in a few minutes. Generation runs in the background, so you can close the browser — the worksheet keeps building and waits for you in your library.

Is the worksheet generator free?

Yes. The free plan includes a daily AI-generation quota shared across all of Scholarly's AI tools — flashcards, podcasts, slides, guides, and worksheets. Generating a worksheet counts toward that daily quota. Ultimate raises the daily limits and unlocks AI model selection for higher-quality generations.

Can I edit the worksheet after it's generated?

Worksheets are static PDFs, so they aren't edited directly in the interface — and a single generation produces one worksheet rather than multiple variants or difficulty tiers. If something isn't right, adjust your custom instructions or style and generate again. Worksheets also aren't auto-aligned to specific standards or curricula, and you can't add custom images or interactive elements to the PDF after generation.

Can I generate a worksheet in another language?

Yes. Select your language before you generate and the worksheet — questions and answer key — is written in that language. You're not limited to English.
