How do I turn a textbook chapter into study notes and flashcards?

Paste the chapter into the converter above, tick the outputs you want, and Scholarly writes flashcards, a summary, a practice quiz, and study notes from that exact text in one pass. Every card and question is grounded in the chapter you pasted, so it matches your course instead of a generic outline. Sign up to upload the chapter as a PDF or photo instead and keep the results in your workspace.

  • What goes in: Pasted chapter text on this page. Inside Scholarly, the same chapter as a PDF, a photo of the pages, or typed notes. The outputs are built from the source itself.
  • What comes out: Flashcards, a summary, a practice quiz with answers, and organized study notes, in any combination and all from the same chapter. Download them as one Markdown file, or save them to Scholarly to study the flashcards with SM-2 spaced repetition.
  • What each plan gets: This page is free to try. A free Scholarly account includes one AI Creation Credit and one upload (up to 8 MB; PDFs processed up to 32 pages). Premium ($30/mo or $144/yr) gives 10 AI Creation Credits per week, uploads up to 300 MB, and PDFs up to 1,000 pages.

If the chapter is already in front of you, paste it once and study it four ways instead of re-reading it.

How it works

From dense chapter to study set in three steps

No reformatting, no manual note-taking — paste once and get every format.

01

Step 1: Upload Chapter

Paste your textbook chapter content or key sections you want to convert into study materials.

02

Step 2: AI Converts

Our AI transforms the content into flashcards, summaries, quizzes, and organized study notes.

03

Step 3: Study Efficiently

Access all your study materials in one place and learn more effectively with multiple formats.

What you get

One chapter, four study formats

Pick any combination. Each format is generated from the same chapter so everything stays consistent.

Flashcards

Active-recall cards for the key terms, definitions, and relationships in the chapter.

Summary

A clear, structured overview that captures the main ideas without the filler.

Practice quiz

Questions that check whether you actually understand the chapter, with answers.

Study notes

Organized, skimmable notes you can review the night before an exam.

Why it works

Study the chapter, not just re-read it

A textbook chapter is dense by design, but re-reading it rarely sticks. Turning the same material into flashcards, a quiz, and tight notes forces active recall — the single most reliable way to move ideas into long-term memory.

Because every format is generated from the chapter you paste, the questions and notes stay faithful to your own course instead of a generic outline. Scholarly focuses on the concepts and relationships worth knowing, not trivia like figure numbers.

Generate once and study however you learn best: drill the flashcards, test yourself with the quiz, skim the summary before class, or keep the notes for revision. Sign up to save your set and study it on Scholarly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What formats can I convert textbook chapters to?

Convert chapters into flashcards, summaries, quizzes, study notes, and practice questions. Get all formats from a single chapter.

How do I use the textbook chapter converter?

Paste or upload your textbook chapter content, select the output formats you want, and our AI will generate all study materials instantly.

Is there a limit on how many pages or photos I can convert?

The converter on this page takes pasted chapter text. To convert a PDF or photos of the pages, sign in to Scholarly and upload the chapter: a free account includes one upload up to 8 MB, with PDFs processed up to 32 pages. Premium ($30/mo or $144/yr) raises that to 300 MB uploads and PDFs up to 1,000 pages, with 10 AI Creation Credits per week.

Does it work with scanned or photographed textbook chapters?

Yes. Upload a scanned PDF or a clear photo of the pages inside Scholarly and it reads the text on the page, then builds the same flashcards, summary, quiz, and notes from it. Sharper, well-lit images give better results. The free converter on this page is paste-only, so use your Scholarly account for scans.

What formats do the study materials come in?

You get flashcards, a summary, a practice quiz with answers, and organized study notes, in any combination. On this page, Download All saves them together as one Markdown (.md) file. When you save the set to Scholarly, the flashcards study with SM-2 spaced repetition and, on paid plans, export as an Anki (.apkg) deck or as a PDF for printing; the notes and summary stay as documents you can keep editing.

What does the free plan cover?

The converter on this page is free to try without an account and no credit card is needed. A free Scholarly account includes one lifetime AI Creation Credit and one lifetime upload (up to 8 MB; PDFs processed up to 32 pages), so you can convert one full chapter and keep it. There is no free trial of Premium; Premium ($30/mo or $144/yr) gives 10 AI Creation Credits per week, 300 MB uploads, and PDFs up to 1,000 pages.

Your questions, answered

Is Scholarly free to use?

Yes! The free plan includes core study tools with lifetime allowances: 3 AI Chat messages, 500 autocomplete words, 5 quiz questions, 15 voice minutes, 1 practice exam, one free AI Creation Credit total, and 1 file upload. These allowances do not reset. Upgrade to Premium for 10 AI Creation Credits per week and unlimited uploads.

What uses my free AI Creation Credits?

AI Creation Credits are shared across flashcards, podcasts, videos, slides, AI Documents, Deep Research, and the Transcribe tool. The selected model determines the credit cost. Recording live audio and saving its transcript uses your file upload allowance instead; it does not use AI Creation Credits.

Absolutely. There are no contracts or commitments. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings, and you'll keep access until the end of your billing period.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe. Pricing is displayed in USD by default, but local currency is available in the app.

Can I use Scholarly with a class or school?

Yes. For a school or organization-wide rollout, contact us at hello@scholarly.so and we'll help you find the right setup.

What happens when I hit a free plan limit?

You'll see a prompt to upgrade. Your existing work is never lost — limits only apply to new actions. Free-plan allowances are lifetime credits and do not reset. Premium includes 10 AI Creation Credits per week, podcasts up to 60 minutes, video lectures up to 45 minutes, unlimited uploads, chat, autocomplete, quizzes, and exams, plus more daily voice time.
