Direct answer
Can AI write a quiz in German from a PDF?
Yes. Upload the PDF, notes or deck, set the output language to German, and choose question types and difficulty. Scholarly writes the questions, answer options and explanations in German, and each explanation points to the passage it came from.
- Free plan: Generate German quizzes from one upload (up to 8 MB; the first 32 pages of a PDF are read) and answer 5 practice questions for life. No credit card.
- Paid plans: Paid plans remove the 5-question practice limit. Premium includes 15 AI Creation Credits a week and uploads up to 300 MB; Laureate includes 80 credits a week.
- What goes in: PDFs, notes, slide decks, pasted text and other files in your library, including scanned pages.
- What comes out: Multiple choice, true/false, short-answer and fill-in-the-blank questions, each with an explanation.
- How German is handled: Questions, options and explanations are written in German, whatever language the source is in. Narration is spoken by a multilingual voice that is told to speak German instead of guessing the language from the text, and asked to read numbers and units the way a native speaker says them.

Language details
How Scholarly handles German
What changes when the output language is German, taken from how the speech and rendering pipeline actually works.
Voice
Narration is spoken by a multilingual voice that is told to speak German instead of guessing the language from the text, and asked to read numbers and units the way a native speaker says them.
Script and layout
Latin script, left to right, including umlauts and ß. Titles, captions and the transcript are written in German along with the narration.
Variants in the picker
The picker lists German, Austrian German and Swiss German. The variant shapes the written script and is also named to the narrator, so listen to the first minute if you need standard German throughout.
Check before you share
Decide between Sie and du before you generate and say so in the instructions, so the whole module uses one form of address.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can my source be in English and the output in German?
Yes. The source and the output do not have to share a language. Upload an English PDF, deck or recording, set the output language to German in the creation panel, and the script, text and narration are written in German. Leave the setting on Auto and Scholarly follows the language of the source instead.
Can I choose between formal and informal German?
Yes. Add a short instruction such as "address the viewer as Sie" or "use du" when you create, and the script follows it throughout.
Is the German quiz generator free?
You can start free: Free accounts generate quizzes in German and answer 5 lifetime practice questions. Paid plans remove that limit and take larger uploads.
Which question types can I get in German?
Multiple choice, true/false and short answer, plus fill-in-the-blank questions in study and exam modes. All of them, including the explanations, are written in German.
Is Scholarly's interface available in German?
Yes. Scholarly's interface is available in German: choose Deutsch as your app language in Settings › Appearance › App language, and new accounts open in it when your browser asks for it. What you create has its own output language: pick German once as your default in Settings, or per creation in the language row of the creation panel.
