Direct answer

Can I turn my notes into a video for free?

Yes. A free Scholarly account includes one lifetime AI Creation Credit, and you can spend it on a narrated video made from your notes: upload a PDF, a photo of handwritten pages, or pasted text, and the AI reads only that material, writes a teaching script, and renders a narrated video with diagrams, chapters, captions, and a transcript. Free videos are a fixed 2 minutes at 720p with Scholarly branding, enough to see how your notes look on screen. Premium sets a target length up to 45 minutes, renders 1080p, gives 15 AI Creation Credits every week, and downloads a watermark-free MP4.

  • What goes in: Typed or handwritten notes as a PDF, Word document, slide deck, image, or pasted text: one source per video on Free, up to 10 on Premium and 20 on Laureate. Free uploads are capped at 8 MB and PDFs are read up to 32 pages; Premium accepts files up to 300 MB and PDFs up to 1,000 pages.
  • What comes out: A narrated video lecture built only from your notes: diagrams, charts, and equations that build in step with the voice, chapters, captions, a searchable transcript, AI chat grounded in the same notes, and one-click flashcards or a quiz from the same source.
  • What each plan gets: Free: one lifetime AI Creation Credit and one upload, giving one 2-minute video at 720p that you watch and share by link. Premium ($30/mo or $180/yr): 15 AI Creation Credits per week, videos up to 45 minutes at 1080p, and watermark-free MP4 download; a video above 15 minutes costs 1 extra credit, above 30 minutes 2 extra. Laureate ($99/mo): 80 AI Creation Credits per week.

Best for: class notes, handwritten pages, and work notes you want explained back to you before you drill them. The free creation is enough to make your first video today; upgrade only for longer videos or an MP4 you can keep.

How Notes to Video Works

Updated October 2026

To turn notes into a video, upload typed or handwritten notes (PDF, Word, image, or pasted text). Scholarly reads them, writes a narrated lecture script, and renders an animated explainer with diagrams and a natural voice; a 2-minute video usually takes 8 to 20 minutes to generate. The Free plan includes one AI creation, which can be a 2-minute video at 720p; paid plans add lengths up to 45 minutes, 1080p, and MP4 download. Every video comes with chapters, captions, a transcript, and one-click flashcards, and it works the same way for work notes such as SOPs and meeting notes.

Scholarly's notes to video converter reads through your study notes (whether typed or handwritten) and transforms them into a structured video lecture. The AI identifies key concepts, definitions, and relationships in your notes, then creates animated scenes that explain each topic with clear visualisations and natural voice narration.

Your messy, shorthand lecture notes become a polished video explainer that covers everything you wrote down. It's like having a tutor walk you through your own notes, filling in the gaps and making connections you might have missed in class.

Why Turn Notes Into Video?

Notes are great for capturing information during a lecture, but they're not always the best format for studying later. Abbreviations, shorthand, and rushed handwriting can make review difficult. When your notes become a video, the AI expands your shorthand into full explanations, adds visual context, and narrates the material so you can learn through watching and listening instead of just reading.

This is especially useful before exams when you need to review large amounts of material quickly. Instead of rereading pages of notes, you can watch a concise video that covers the same content in a more engaging and memorable format.

Supported Note Formats

Upload notes in any format. PDF files from Google Docs, Notion, or OneNote work perfectly. Word documents and PowerPoint files are supported too. For handwritten notes, snap a photo and upload the image. Our AI reads your handwriting and converts it into video content. You can also paste notes directly as text.

The AI handles all note-taking styles: bullet points, outlines, paragraphs, mind maps, and even Cornell method notes. Your formatting doesn't need to be perfect: the AI understands the structure and content regardless of how it's organised.

From Notes to Flashcards to Video

Scholarly's study workflow doesn't stop at video. After generating a video lecture from your notes, you can create flashcards from the video with one click. The AI extracts the key concepts and turns them into question-and-answer cards for spaced repetition study. You can also use AI chat to ask questions about anything in the video.

This gives you a complete study pipeline: notes → video → flashcards → exam mode. Each step makes you re-engage with the same material in a different form: watching, recalling, then answering under test conditions.

Share Video Lectures With Your Study Group

Generated videos can be shared with classmates directly from Scholarly. If you took great notes in class, convert them to a video and share it with your study group. Everyone benefits from a clear, narrated explanation of the material, and the built-in AI chat lets each person ask their own follow-up questions.

Notes to Video vs. Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) and Synthesia

Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) Video Overviews are excellent at summarising documents into a short narrated video, and its Studio panel can also make flashcards and quizzes from the same sources. But it isn't built around class notes or a study loop: the video is a brief overview rather than a chaptered lecture up to 45 minutes, and the flashcards and quizzes have no spaced-repetition schedule, no graded exam, and no export. Synthesia and HeyGen make polished avatar videos for corporate training, but you have to write the script yourself; they won't read your handwritten notes and turn them into a lecture.

Scholarly's notes to video AI is the opposite: you give it the messy notes you actually took, and it expands the shorthand, scripts the lecture, and renders chaptered animated scenes, then attaches flashcards, a scoped quiz, and AI chat grounded in your notes. For studying from your own material rather than producing a marketing clip, that study layer is the difference.

More Ways to Make Study Videos

Notes are one entry point into the same video lecture generator. Scholarly builds the same chaptered, narrated lecture from PDFs, slides, pasted text, YouTube videos, and recorded lectures:

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert my notes to a video?

Upload your notes as a PDF, paste text, or upload a photo of handwritten notes. Scholarly's AI reads the content, writes a narrated script, and generates an animated video lecture with visualisations and natural voice narration.

Is Scholarly's notes to video free?

Yes, to start. The Free plan includes one lifetime AI Creation Credit, shared across every Scholarly tool, and it can make one narrated notes video of about 2 minutes at 720p with Scholarly branding, with no credit card. Free uploads are up to 8 MB and PDFs are read up to 32 pages. Watching and sharing by link are free; MP4 download, 1080p, a custom length up to 45 minutes, and 15 AI Creation Credits a week come with Premium.

Can I use handwritten notes?

Yes. Take a photo of your handwritten notes and upload the image. Scholarly's AI uses optical character recognition to read your handwriting and convert it into a video lecture.

How long does video generation take?

A 2-minute video usually takes about 8 to 20 minutes to generate, and longer lectures take longer: about 18 to 40 minutes for a 10-minute video and about 55 to 95 minutes for 45 minutes. It runs on Scholarly's servers, so you can close the tab and come back to the finished video.

What note formats are supported?

PDF, Word documents (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), images of handwritten notes, and pasted text. Notes from Google Docs, Notion, OneNote, Evernote, or any other app work as long as you export them or copy-paste the text.

Can I generate flashcards from the video?

Yes. After your video is generated, you can create flashcards with one click. The AI extracts the key concepts into question-and-answer cards that Scholarly schedules with spaced repetition. Exporting them to Anki or PDF requires a paid plan.

Can I download the video as an MP4?

Yes, on any paid plan. Classmates and teammates can always watch a shared link in the browser. Premium and Laureate download the finished lecture as an MP4, and turning the Scholarly logo off when you generate gives a watermark-free file; the export pack adds the companion slides PDF (Standard mode), the script, and caption files. On the Free plan you watch the video in Scholarly and share it with a view link that opens in the browser, but download is not included.

Do my notes need to be well-organised?

No. The AI handles all note-taking styles: bullet points, outlines, paragraphs, mind maps, and even messy shorthand. Your formatting doesn't need to be perfect.

Which languages are supported?

Narration, captions, and the transcript can be generated in 70+ output languages and regional variants, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese. Your notes and the video do not have to share a language, so English notes can become a Spanish or Hindi video. Arabic and Hebrew lectures are laid out right to left, and on-screen text follows the lecture's language.

How long can an AI video lecture be?

On the Free plan, a video lecture is a fixed length of about 2 minutes. On Premium and Laureate you set a target length up to 45 minutes before generating (15 minutes is the default), and the lecture is planned to that length, so a long set of notes gets more chapters rather than a rushed pace. Each video costs 1 AI Creation Credit with the default model, plus 1 extra credit above 15 minutes and 2 extra above 30 minutes. The vertical Short format keeps its own fixed length.

What is the best notes to video AI for students?

Scholarly is purpose-built for learning from your own material, not for marketing clips. Instead of pasting a summary onto stock slides, it reads your actual notes as a teaching source, keeps definitions and worked steps intact, and renders a chaptered lecture wired into a study loop: transcript search, AI chat grounded in your notes, and one-click flashcards and quizzes. Free includes one 2-minute video; paid plans go up to 45 minutes with MP4 download.

Can I turn a PDF or a YouTube video into a video lecture instead?

Yes. Scholarly builds the same chaptered, narrated lecture from a PDF (lecture slides, textbook chapters), pasted text, or a YouTube link - use the matching tool for whichever source you already have. The notes to video workflow is the right one when your input is class notes, especially messy or handwritten ones.

When is turning notes into a video the wrong choice?

When you need speed over depth. For a fast pre-exam skim, a written study guide is quicker than watching. For finding one definition, AI chat or searching your notes wins. For problem-heavy courses, practice questions build more skill. Notes to video is strongest on your first pass through a topic, for visual subjects, and when you can only listen - commutes, the gym, chores.

Can I turn an SOP or process document into a training video?

Yes. Upload a standard operating procedure, onboarding guide, process doc, or policy PDF, up to 10 files in one video (20 on Laureate), and Scholarly writes a teaching script only from that material, then generates a narrated video with chapters, captions, and a full transcript. Because the script comes from your document rather than the open internet, it uses your steps and your terminology. Review it before rolling it out, as with anything AI-generated. Compliance manuals and policy handbooks work the same way. Paid plans render up to 45 minutes at 1080p; Free renders one 2-minute video.

Does it work for business reports, decks, and onboarding guides?

Yes. Text-based files produce the best results, and PDFs, Word documents, and slide decks all work. You can combine up to 10 files into one video (20 on Laureate) - for example an SOP plus the policy behind it - and when the document changes you update it and generate a fresh video in minutes instead of re-recording. The uploaded material stays in your workspace, so teammates can also chat with it and get cited answers.

Can my team share the videos?

Yes. Every video can be shared with a link and watched in the browser with chapters, captions, and a transcript, and paid plans can download a watermark-free MP4 to host in your wiki or anywhere else. Scholarly for Teams adds shared source libraries so everyone builds from the same approved material, invitations by email or link with Member and Admin roles, per-member activity, and one central bill for the seats you choose on Premium for Teams or Laureate for Teams; the team plan unlocks its formats and AI limits for every seat.

Is there a website that turns notes into videos for free?

Yes. Scholarly runs in any browser on a laptop or phone, with no app or extension to install and no trial that expires. Sign up, upload your notes, and your free lifetime AI Creation Credit produces a narrated 2-minute video at 720p. That first video is genuinely free; if you want longer videos and 15 AI Creation Credits every week, Premium is $30/mo or $180/yr.

Can I turn handwritten or lecture notes into a video?

Yes. Photograph handwritten pages or upload lecture notes as a PDF, Word document, slide deck, or pasted text, and Scholarly reads the writing, expands shorthand into full explanations, and narrates it as a video lecture. Clear, well-lit photos read best. The AI keeps your definitions and worked steps rather than replacing them with a generic summary of the topic.

What does the video look like?

It is a narrated lecture built from new scenes, not a recording of your notes: a natural voice explains the material while diagrams, charts, equations, and step-by-step builds animate in sync, and the AI can add generated pictures or figures cut from your notes. The video is 16:9 (Short is vertical), split into chapters, with captions you can switch on, a searchable transcript, optional question checkpoints, and AI chat. Standard is the default style; Illustrated, Short, Manim Math Animation, and Freestyle are the other modes.
