Quick answer

What is an AI video lecture generator?

An AI video lecture generator turns your source material into a narrated, animated video lesson. Scholarly builds a chaptered lecture from a PDF, your class notes, slides, a YouTube link, or just a topic, then connects that lecture to flashcards, quizzes, a searchable transcript, and summaries - grounded in the source you gave it when you upload one; from a bare topic, the AI builds the lesson itself.

  • What goes in: PDFs, typed or handwritten notes, slide decks, YouTube links, or a topic you describe. The lecture is written from the actual source, not a summary of it.
  • What comes out: A narrated, animated video lecture with chapters and a synchronised transcript, ready to turn into flashcards, a quiz, or a summary from the same source.
  • What each plan gets: Free accounts get one lifetime AI Creation Credit and one upload (8 MB, up to 32 PDF pages); a free video is a fixed length of about 2 minutes at 720p with Scholarly branding. Paid plans add 1080p, a custom length up to 45 minutes, and watermark-free MP4 download.

Use it when you need a concept explained before you drill it: the lecture follows your material, and the transcript and chapters let you jump back to any point and verify what was said.

Add a source

Upload a PDF, paste notes, or describe the topic you need explained.

Generate lecture

Scholarly creates a narrated lesson with structure, chapters, and captions.

Study from it

Use the transcript, flashcards, quizzes, or summaries to review actively.

When to generate an AI lecture

Hard chapters

Turn dense reading into a guided explanation.

Missed classes

Create a catch-up lecture from notes or slides.

Visual review

Use narration, chapters, and captions when text is not enough.

Self-teaching

Make a structured lesson before drilling flashcards.

Input

PDFs, notes, text, topics, and study guides.

Output

Narrated lecture with transcript, chapters, and captions.

Best for

Students and professionals who want a lesson first and active recall after.

A lecture made from your actual material

Scholarly uses the source you provide, so the lecture follows the class material instead of giving a generic internet explanation.

Video lecture plus study tools

A generated lecture helps you understand the material. Flashcards, quizzes, and summaries help you retain it. Scholarly connects both steps.

Useful for first-pass learning

Use AI lectures when you need a concept explained before memorising details. Then convert the same source into active-recall practice.

For professors, teachers, and course creators

Turn the slides and readings you teach from into a lecture video

Upload a PowerPoint deck, a PDF chapter, or your course notes. Scholarly writes the narration from that material, voices it, and renders a chaptered lecture video with captions, a transcript, and question checkpoints. There is no avatar to set up, nothing to record, and no timeline to edit.

Slides to lecture video with voiceover

Upload a .pptx deck or a PDF export of your slides. Speaker notes are read with each slide, and the lecture is rebuilt as narrated, animated scenes rather than a screen recording.

A course module from a PDF chapter

Pick the pages of a textbook chapter, reading, or handout. The narration is written only from the pages you select, so the video teaches what your course teaches.

Your script, word for word

Already written the lecture? Turn on Use my script as written and the narrator keeps your wording and order instead of writing a new script.

Ready for your LMS or course platform

On a paid plan, download the MP4 and an export pack with the slides, the narration script by chapter, and captions as .vtt and .srt files.

  • Lectures up to 45 minutes on Premium and Laureate
  • 1080p Full HD and a logo-free MP4 on paid plans
  • Narration, captions, and on-screen text in over 70 languages
  • Chapters, synced captions, a transcript, and question checkpoints in every lecture

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best AI lecture generator for students?

Scholarly is built specifically for studying rather than presentations. The AI lecture generator works from your own PDFs, notes, slides, or topic prompt, keeps the explanation grounded in that source, and then turns the same material into flashcards, a quiz, and a searchable transcript - so the lecture is the start of a study loop, not a one-off video.

Is there a free AI lecture generator?

Yes. Scholarly's free plan lets you use one lifetime AI Creation Credit to generate an AI lecture with no credit card. A free lecture is about 2 minutes at 720p and includes Scholarly branding. Watermark-free output is paid: turn the logo off when you generate, then download that MP4. Premium includes 15 AI Creation Credits each week, longer source material, and a custom length up to 45 minutes.

Can Scholarly generate a lecture from a PDF?

Yes. Upload a textbook chapter, lecture slides, or any PDF and the AI lecture generator reads it (up to 32 pages per PDF on Free, 1,000 on Premium, 3,000 on Laureate), including figures and equations, before writing a narrated lesson with chapters and on-screen visuals. You can also try the dedicated PDF to Video tool for the same workflow.

Can I use my class notes or just a topic as the source?

Yes, both. Paste typed notes, upload a Word or Markdown file, or photograph handwritten pages, and the lecture follows your notes' scope and terminology. Or type a topic prompt like "explain the Krebs cycle for a biochem exam" and the AI builds the lesson itself; when you have real course or work material, add it as a source so the lecture sticks to it instead of the open web.

Can I download the video as an MP4?

Yes, on any paid plan. Premium and Laureate download the finished lecture as an MP4, and turning the Scholarly logo off when you generate gives a watermark-free file; the export pack adds the companion slides PDF (Standard mode), the script, and caption files. On the Free plan you watch the video in Scholarly and share it with a view link that opens in the browser, but download is not included.

What does the video look like?

It is a narrated lecture built from new scenes, not a recording of your source: a natural voice explains the material while diagrams, charts, equations, and step-by-step builds animate in sync, and the AI can add generated pictures or figures cut from your source. The video is 16:9 (Short is vertical), split into chapters, with captions you can switch on, a searchable transcript, optional question checkpoints, and AI chat. Standard is the default style; Illustrated, Short, Manim Math Animation, and Freestyle are the other modes.

Which languages are supported?

Narration, captions, and the transcript can be generated in 70+ output languages and regional variants, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese. The source and the lecture do not have to share a language, so an English PDF can become a Spanish, Hindi, or Arabic lecture. Arabic and Hebrew lectures are laid out right to left, and on-screen text follows the lecture's language.

How long can an AI video lecture be?

On the Free plan, a video lecture is a fixed length of about 2 minutes. On Premium and Laureate you set a target length up to 45 minutes before generating (15 minutes is the default), and the lecture is planned to that length. Each video costs 1 AI Creation Credit with the default model, plus 1 extra credit above 15 minutes and 2 extra above 30 minutes. The vertical Short format keeps its own fixed length. Generation takes longer than the runtime: a 2-minute lecture usually takes 8 to 20 minutes, and a 45-minute lecture about 55 to 95 minutes.

Can professors and teachers use Scholarly as an AI lecture generator for a course?

Yes. Upload the slides, PDF chapter, or notes you teach from, choose a length, language, and voice, and Scholarly generates a narrated, chaptered lecture video with captions, a transcript, and question checkpoints. Premium and Laureate set any length up to 45 minutes, render in 1080p, and download the MP4 with .vtt and .srt captions for your LMS. Turn on Use my script as written to keep your exact wording. There is no avatar or on-screen presenter.

Can I make an online course video from a PDF?

Yes. Upload the PDF, select the pages for one module, and choose a length up to 45 minutes on a paid plan. For a full course, make one lecture per chapter or module: shorter lectures stay focused and are easier to regenerate when the material changes. Download each one as an MP4 with captions and upload it to your course platform.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe. Pricing is displayed in USD by default, but local currency is available in the app.

Can I use Scholarly with a class or school?

Yes. For a school or organisation-wide rollout, contact us at hello@scholarly.so and we'll help you find the right setup.
