0:00 - 0:10
that's very cool three-two-one
0:06 - 0:13
yeah a guy named was online Twitter
0:10 - 0:16
errors Instagram handles TGT studios and
0:13 - 0:18
he makes these I actually had one made
0:16 - 0:20
for Elon Elon Musk loved it too so we
0:18 - 0:23
made him one with he made one with like
0:20 - 0:24
this very beautiful redwood and those
0:23 - 0:26
are what are those things made out of
0:24 - 0:27
Jamie that some diodes or something
0:26 - 0:32
Nixie tubes
0:27 - 0:35
Nixie tubes yes yeah he has to get them
0:32 - 0:37
from Russia that's uh he has them
0:35 - 0:38
delivered over from Russia so they might
0:37 - 0:42
have like listening devices implanted in
0:38 - 0:44
them as well yeah so Brian good to see
0:42 - 0:46
you man great to be back yeah great to
0:44 - 0:48
have you back so tell me what this tour
0:46 - 0:50
that you're doing it's a it's a willed
0:48 - 0:51
tool try to keep this sucker like a
0:50 - 0:54
fistful oh yeah there you go
0:51 - 0:58
how's that perfect yeah it's a world
0:54 - 0:59
tour starts next week in the UK and then
0:58 - 1:01
we go everywhere from the South Island
0:59 - 1:04
in New Zealand all the way to the Arctic
1:01 - 1:06
Circle so Svalbard which is north the
1:04 - 1:08
furthest north that you can go on a
1:06 - 1:09
commercial aircraft in the middle of
1:08 - 1:14
we're in the States for a month in a
1:09 - 1:17
mainly May and yeah it's it's about
1:14 - 1:20
cosmology and about the questions that
1:17 - 1:23
cosmology raises so if you're interested
1:20 - 1:26
in the science of how did the universe
1:23 - 1:28
begin even questions of what may have
1:26 - 1:29
been there is the universe eternal is
1:28 - 1:31
there such a thing as before the Big
1:29 - 1:34
Bang what is the future of the universe
1:31 - 1:37
how does complexity emerge spontaneously
1:34 - 1:39
in a universe I mean we sort of take you
1:37 - 1:41
for granted that we there's a big bang
1:39 - 1:44
and it's all hot and there's just this
1:41 - 1:48
kind of hot glow of stuff and I out said
1:44 - 1:49
that spontaneously in 13.8 billion years
1:48 - 1:52
you get something like the earth with
1:49 - 1:54
the civilization and life on it so how
1:52 - 1:56
does that do we know anything about that
1:54 - 1:58
I mean we do I'm asking the question
1:56 - 2:00
atomically we know quite a lot about it
1:58 - 2:02
so it's it's really about showing the
2:00 - 2:04
size and scale of the universe but
2:02 - 2:05
addressing those questions I think
2:04 - 2:07
everybody has about what is it what does
2:05 - 2:11
it mean to be human this tiny little
2:07 - 2:12
finite life that we lead in a possibly
2:11 - 2:15
infinite universe
2:12 - 2:17
sense of that well it's incredibly
2:15 - 2:20
exciting to me that there's a giant
2:17 - 2:22
audience for this and that what Neil
2:20 - 2:24
deGrasse Tyson had been doing and what a
2:22 - 2:26
lot of public touring intellectuals are
2:24 - 2:28
doing now they're doing these giant
2:26 - 2:29
theaters and these people are coming out
2:28 - 2:31
to see these shows and we're realizing
2:29 - 2:33
that there's I'm I hate to use the term
2:31 - 2:35
market for this but there's a demand for
2:33 - 2:37
this and there's a lot of people who are
2:35 - 2:39
incredibly fascinated by this and yeah
2:37 - 2:42
it's it's spreading information
2:39 - 2:44
expressing knowledge yeah I mean in the
2:42 - 2:47
UK particularly I mean do Wembley Arena
2:44 - 2:49
for example you're talking about 10,000
2:47 - 2:51
people 12 times equal and you're right
2:49 - 2:53
they are coming all the other you know
2:51 - 2:56
their big shows spectacular screens and
2:53 - 2:59
all that they're coming for to think
2:56 - 3:01
that they're coming to hear about what
2:59 - 3:03
we know about the universe and nature
3:01 - 3:05
and I think you know I think I'm not
3:03 - 3:07
surprised people are interested because
3:05 - 3:08
these are questions everybody asks you
3:07 - 3:10
know I mean just why am I here you know
3:08 - 3:14
everybody's asking that question but I
3:10 - 3:16
my point is that there is a framework
3:14 - 3:18
there's a framework of knowledge there
3:16 - 3:20
are things we know about the universe so
3:18 - 3:20
it is true that science scientists are
3:20 - 3:22
not going to tell you why you're here
3:20 - 3:24
they're not gonna tell you what the
3:22 - 3:27
meaning of life is but there is actually
3:24 - 3:28
a there are things you need to know if
3:27 - 3:30
you want to start to explore those
3:28 - 3:33
questions for yourself
3:30 - 3:34
but you need to know that there are two
3:33 - 3:36
trillion galaxies in the observable
3:34 - 3:39
universe you need to know that the Milky
3:36 - 3:41
Way galaxy has got 200 billion stars
3:39 - 3:43
most of those stars now we know have
3:41 - 3:45
planetary systems we estimate there are
3:43 - 3:48
something like 20 billion earth-like
3:45 - 3:51
planets or potentially earth-like
3:48 - 3:53
planets in the Milky Way galaxy alone so
3:51 - 3:54
if you're asking questions about what is
3:53 - 3:56
my place in the universe you need to
3:54 - 3:58
know those things first of all it's a
3:56 - 3:59
framework within which you can think
3:58 - 4:01
when you get to those numbers when
3:59 - 4:04
you're talking about trillions and
4:01 - 4:07
billions and though all those zeros my
4:04 - 4:09
brain just goes numb there's this lack
4:07 - 4:12
of comprehension that I'm well aware of
4:09 - 4:16
like those numbers get thrown about I go
4:12 - 4:20
oh 200 billion hmm I think everybody
4:16 - 4:22
does I think I've every scientist and no
4:20 - 4:25
scientist can picture that number I mean
4:22 - 4:28
he even the small number 200 billion
4:25 - 4:32
starts in one galaxy and then when you
4:28 - 4:35
say two trillion galaxies you know
4:32 - 4:37
that's I challenge anyone to be able to
4:35 - 4:40
picture that but it is the reality that
4:37 - 4:42
we've observed we've you know we haven't
4:40 - 4:44
counted all to trillion by the way we
