Question
how does displacement of water work?
Answer
-gas released is bubbled into an inverted gas jar filled with water -gas will take up the space and push down the water level (displace the water) in the gas jar (since it is unable to dissolve in water)
2
Question
what type of gases are suitable for displacement of water
Answer
in soluble or slightly soluble gases
3
Question
what are some examples of gases which can use displacement of water
Answer
hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide
4
Question
how does downward delivery work?
Answer
the gas collected wil sink in the test tube and displace the air. the gas jar should not be sealed in order for the air to be pushed out by the gasso that the gas can enter
5
Question
what type of gases are suitable for downward delivery
Answer
gases that are denser than air and soluble in water
6
Question
what are some examples of gases suitable for downward delivery?
Answer
chlorine and hydrogen chloride
7
Question
how does upward delivery work?
Answer
-the gas collected will rise up the gas and displace the air inside? -the gas jar must nbot be sealed so the displaced air can exit and the gas can enter
8
Question
what type gases are suitable for upward delivery
Answer
gas that are less dense than air and soluble in water
9
Question
what are some example of gases that use upward delivery
Answer
ammonia and helium
10
Question
what gases can gas syringe collect
Answer
all types of gases
11
Question
how does a gas syringe collect gas
Answer
-using a reaction that produces the gas uw, it wil be collected by a gas syringe and pushes a plunger
12
Question
what is an advantage of using gas syringe
Answer
the volume of gas can be measured directly
13
Question
what are the properties of ammonia? (density compared to air, solubility, method of collection)
Answer
less dense than air, extremely soluble in water. use upward delivery
14
Question
what are the properties of carbon dioxide? (density compared to air, solubility, method of collection)
Answer
denser, slightly soluble. use displacement of water
15
Question
what are the properties of chlorine? (density compared to air, solubility, method of collection)
Answer
denser, soluble. use downward delivery
16
Question
what are the properties of hydrogen? (density compared to air, solubility, method of collection)
Answer
less dense, not solube. use displacement of water
17
Question
what are the properties of hydrogen chloride? (density compared to air, solubility, method of collection)
Answer
denser, very soluble. use downward delivery
18
Question
what are the properties of oxygen? (density compared to air, solubility, method of collectection)
Answer
slightly denser, very slightly soluble. use displacement of water
19
Question
what are the properties of sulfur dioxide? (density compared to air, solubility, method of collection)
Answer
denser, very soluble. use downward delivery
20
Question
what are the different types of drying agents?
Answer
concentrated sulfuric acid, quicklime/calcium oxide, fused calcium chloride
21
Question
what is the nature of concentrated sulfuric acid?
Answer
acidic
22
Question
what is the nature of quicklime
Answer
alkaline
23
Question
fused calcium chloride
Answer
neutral
24
Question
what is important to note when drying gases?
Answer
you can only dry gases using gases of the same or neutral nature eg. ammonia cant be dried using sulfuric acid
25
Question
whats the definition of accuracy
Answer
accuracy is how close a measurement is to the true value
26
Question
whats the definition of precision
Answer
precision is how close the measurements of the same items r to each other
27
Question
what is used to measure time
Answer
stopwatch (digital)
28
Question
whats the precision/smallest division of a thermometer
Answer
1*C
29
Question
wahts the uncertainty of measurement of a thermometer
Answer
0.5*C
30
Question
what is used to measure temperature
Answer
thermometer
