Geoffrey Chaucer
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, the father of English Literature is a fine example of literature written in Middle English.
Rhyme
The repetition of similar sounds at the end of lines in a poem.
Giovanni Boccaccio
Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375) is known for Decameron, a classic Italian masterpiece. The stories were written in Italian and provide a vivid portrait of life during the Black Death.
The Ramayana
is another Indian epic written in Sanskrit. The sage Valmiki was traditionally regarded as its author. It is shorter than the Mahabharata, with some 24,000 couplets. It tells the story of Prince Rama and his rescue of his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana.
Asian Literature
Asia is known to be the most populous and largest continent of the planet. It is a cradle of human race, world religions, and civilizations, which is composed of widespread varieties of ethnic groups, diverse cultures, environments, economics, historical linkages, and varied governmental systems, making it rich in written literature. Since it is the biggest continent, a wealth of written and spoken texts have been recorded.
Homer
Known for The Iliad and The Odyssey, epic poems about the heroic achievements of Achilles and Odysseus. Largest body of literature in the world.
Du Fu
is considered as China's greatest poet. He was known for his works of lushi, a form of Chinese poetry. A lushi has eight lines, each of which has five or seven syllables, following a strict tonal pattern.
Wole Soyinka
Nigerian writer who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986, becoming the first black African to do so.
Old English Literature
Old English Literature (600-1100) is the earliest form of the English language. It includes works such as Beowulf and The Aeneid.
Leo Tolstoy
Known for novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina. (1828-1910)

The Mahabharata
is an Indian epic written in Sanskrit. It is the longest poem in history, with about 100,000 couplets. It is a story of a great war, and it also contains much philosophical and devotional material.

Nigerian writer known for the novel 'Things Fall Apart' (1958), considered the best-known African novel of the 20th Century.
Chinese Couplet
Couplets used for two thousand years, often written as individual poems and hung around doorways on special occasions with wishes for a prosperous life.
Split Couplet
A couplet with asymmetrical rhythms, with the first line following iambic pentameter and the second line following iambic dimeter.
Homer

Heroic Couplet
The most common couplet used in English poetry, following an iambic pentameter rhythm.
Meter

The Panchatantra
is a collection of Indian animal fables. Originally written in Sanskrit, it is a mixture of prose and verse. The stories are attributed to Vishnusharman, a learned Brahmin.

A pair of consecutive lines of poetry that create a complete thought or idea.
European Literature
European Literature, also called Western Literature, refers to the literature in the Indo-European languages, including Latin, Greek, the Romance languages, and Russian. It is considered as the largest body of literature in the world.
